Our Review of the Kia A1A

While the Kia A1A is not yet available at Superior Kia, you could see this convertible that is based on the Kia Optima sometime in the future. The Kia A1A is a four-door convertible; and the back doors are suicide doors.

This concept model is one in a series of regional models that the auto maker is working on. The A1A appeared at the tuner expo in Las Vegas in late 2015. Other models include a Sorento that was inspired by the Northwest Coast and a Kia Forte Koup that was inspired by the South. The A1A takes its inspiration from Key West, Florida.

The A1A would feature 20-inch chrome wheels on a dropped coil over suspension, the drop top and suicide doors. The paint is bright teal and the interior is off white leather. The engine would be a turbo-charged four cylinder.

Based on the Optima

Since the A1A would be based on the Kia Optima, you could expect it to have many of the same standard features of the Optima. Convenience features would include a HomeLink garage door transmitter, illuminated entry, remote keyless entry, dual zone air conditioning, automatic temperature control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, navigation, heated power door mirrors with integrated turn signals and an overhead console.

Safety and security features might include brake assist, four-wheel disc brakes, ABS brakes, a knee airbag, an overhead airbag, perimeter/approach lights, front and side impact airbags, a security system and panic alarm, ignition disable, fully automatic headlights, delay off headlights, a rear parking camera, Bi-Xenon headlights and variably intermittent wipers.

Options or standard features on higher trim levels might include rear cross traffic monitoring, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and mitigation, forward crash mitigation, emergency forward braking and adaptive cruise control.

Kia's Electrifying!

When you are in the market for a hybrid gas or electric vehicle, don't count Kia out! While they were a little late getting in the hybrid game, the South Korean auto maker is planning on jumping ahead of the crowd, so you'll see even more hybrid and electric vehicles at Superior Kia.

Many New "Green" Cars

By 2020, Kia expects to launch 26 electric vehicles, plug-ins, hybrids and fuel cells. This will put the automotive manufacturer in the global number two spot in electrified vehicles. Only Toyota will be ahead of Kia.

Of the 26 vehicles, at least 12 will be hybrids, two will be electric vehicles, six will be plug-in hybrids and two will be fuel cell vehicles. The 26 vehicles will include Hyundai models. Some of these vehicles are already on sale or will soon be available. Hyundai has the Sonata hybrid and plug-in models, the Ioniq electric model, a Tucson fuel cell and a Grandeur hybrid, which is sold in the United States as the Azera.

Kia models include the Optima hybrid and plug-in models, the Cadenza hybrid, the Soul electric vehicle and the soon-to-be-released Niro hybrid compact crossover.

The 2016 Kia Optima Hybrid

The Kia Optima hybrid, which is now available in our showroom, gets 36 mpg* in the city and 40 mpg* on the highway. Even with gas prices as low as they are in early 2016, it benefits buyers to go with a hybrid or electric to save on fuel. And, when gas prices go up again, if you have a hybrid, you'll be ahead of the game.

The 2016 Optima hybrid uses an electric motor and a 2.4-liter gas engine. A mode select six-speed automatic transmission gets the power to the wheels. The Optima runs on regular unleaded fuel; and it makes 150 horsepower at 5,500 rpm. Total horsepower from the electric motor and gas engine is 199 horsepower at 5,500 rpm. The Optima makes 154 pound-feet of torque at 4,500 rpm.

The 2017 Kia Cadenza

The 2017 Kia Cadenza, not yet available at Superior Kia, was debuted at the New York International Auto show in March 2016. This second generation model is expected to be released later in 2016. This generation features a new body structure that is lighter and more rigid; and, for the first time, an eight-speed transmission in a front-wheel drive model.

New Features

The new Cadenza has a newly crafted cabin, stronger body structure, powertrain enhancements and cutting edge technology. According to Orth Hedrick, the vice president of product planning for Kia Motors America, everything in the Cadenza's cabin has been improved. The Cadenza designed at Kia's design studio in California. Using "the simplicity of the straight line," Kia's chief design officer Peter Schreyer designed a sleek profile inside and out.

The Cadenza features the tiger nose grille with a new hexagonal shape, wide lines and a long sleek body. The grille curves in toward the engine, giving it a new look. The lower trim levels come with the Diamond Butterfly grille and the higher trim levels feature the Intaglio grille. The piano key taillights feature LED technology; and chrome accents adorn the trunk lid, side mirrors and rear quarter windows.

The new Cadenza is wider and lower than the outgoing model, but it has the same length. The wheelbase is a bit longer, which adds almost a half inch of legroom for the rear passengers. The extended roof line gives the Cadenza a sportier look and more trunk space. Headroom for the rear passengers has not changed.

While materials used in the outgoing model were of high quality, the new generation's interior materials are of even higher quality. The dashboard wraps around onto the door panels and has real stitching. The door panels features soft touch materials and leather fills the cabin space. This year, Kia has given buyers the opportunity to customize the Cadenza, allowing them to choose from four interior color combinations.

Spring Break in Your Kia!

Spring break is fast approaching and it's time to make plans if you haven't already. If you plan your spring break vacation right, you'll be able to have nine days. And, when you have that many days, you can travel for a longer distance.

Planning Your Trip

Since your time is limited to spring break, it's better to plan your trip if you want to see something specific. You'll need to count the days it will take you to and from your destination and then how many days you want to spend at your destination.

Whenever you take a long trip, even if it's a one-day drive that takes 5 or 6 hours, you should always have your vehicle checked. If you are not comfortable with checking it yourself, make an appointment at our service shop at Superior Kia to have your vehicle checked. We'll check the fluids, brakes, suspension, belts and hoses to ensure that everything looks good for a long trip.

Make Reservations

Because your time is limited, you'll want to have your reservations made ahead of time. That way, you won't be wasting time trying to find a hotel when you find the one you wanted, but didn't make reservations for, is full.

Pack Accordingly

Remember, your destination may have significantly different weather during the spring. Even though the weatherman predicts 70s where you're going, it's still a good idea to bring a jacket in case those temperatures decide to take a dive at the last minute.

Pack for the Trip

You'll want to have some snacks and drinks packed for the trip, especially if you have kids that are always hungry. This way, you won't have to stop every couple of hours for drinks or to eat. For the adults, you may want to pack a thermos of coffee or tea. Choose snacks that are healthy and provide energy through protein, such as peanuts. Fruit and cheese also make good snacks that won't give you a sugar crash.

Visit Superior Kia

Stop by Superior Kia to test drive a new vehicle or give our Kia service department a call to schedule an appointment to have you vehicle checked before you leave for spring break.

By 2020, Kia expects to have 11 "green" vehicles.

2017 Kia Niro

The Niro is a crossover that features tons of room because of its width. The design features low proportions, short overhangs and a long roof line, giving it an aerodynamic shape. This model gives you great gas mileage, an excellent driving experience, a design that doesn't scream hybrid and utility.

The Niro features one electric motor and a gas engine, which work together to create 146 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. The gas engine is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder that makes 103 horsepower by itself. The electric motor makes 43 horsepower. A 1.56 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, which is located under the rear seat, brings everything together.

2017 Kia Optima Plug-in Hybrid

The new Optima plug-in hybrid will be available during the last quarter of 2016 and is able to travel about 27 miles on electric power only. This is perfect for those who commute about 20 miles per trip, especially if you have the ability to charge the vehicle while you are at work. The total estimated driving range is 600 miles.

The Optima plug-in hybrid features a 9.8 kilowatt lithium-ion polymer battery pack, located behind the rear seat and tire well, so it doesn't take up a lot of cargo space. If you have access to a 240-volt charger, the vehicle will charge in less than three hours. It takes about 9 hours to charge if you plug into a 120-volt charger. The electric motor, mounted to the transmission, is a 50-kilowatt motor. The gas engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 154 horsepower.

Redesigned 2017 Kia Optima Hybrid

The newly redesigned Optima hybrid make 193 horsepower and will get 10 percent better fuel economy than the outgoing model year. The new engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 154 horsepower; and is baked by a 38 kilowatt electric motor.

How to Remove the Seats in a Kia Sedona

If you are looking for a multi-purpose vehicle, stop by Superior Kia to test drive the new Kia Sedona. Choose from seven- or eight-passenger models with seats that fold out of the way. While you can't remove the seats in the Sedona, you can move them out of the way to create a huge cargo area.

Second Row Seats

The second row features either captains chairs or captains chairs with a center tumble seat. The captains chairs move forward and stand up out of the way, while the tumble seat can be removed. To move the captains seat out of the way, make sure the first row seats are moved forward and that the area in front of the second row is cleared.

Pull the walk in lever while moving the second row seat forward. The seat will stand upright and will be out of the way. Repeat the process for the other side.

To remove the tumble seat, insert the seat belt into the belt assembly cover. This releases the seat belt from the seat. Stow the seat belt in the cavity in the ceiling. Slide the seat belt buckles into the cavities in the seat. Move the headrest to the lowest position.

Pull the recline strap up and push the seat back forward. You'll be able to see the removal strap located behind the seat. Pull that strap and lift the rear of the seat up. Pull the catch release lever that is located under the front of the seat upward while at the same time reclining the sat to the rear. The seat will slide out of the anchors. Remove the seat.

Third Row Seats

The third row is also non-removable but folds into the floor. Move the head rests to the lowest position. The each side of the 60/40 folding seat has a handle in the middle of the seat back which is accessible from the rear hatch. Pull the handle up and rearward to rotate the seat back forward and to move the seat toward the rear of the vehicle. Push the seat down into the stowed position.

The new model is 1.6 inches longer than the last year's model, which means more legroom and headroom for all passengers. Furthermore, the new Sportage features a more rigid chassis and new suspension, giving it a better ride and more comfort while still retaining its sporty look. The Best Tools to Clean Your Tires

When you buy a new vehicle from Superior Kia, you'll want to keep it looking new, even the tires. Brake dust that sits on the wheels eats into the coating and pits the metal. Brake dust, which is heated carbon fibers and adhesive, is very corrosive.

When you clean the tires, you'll need a soft bristle brush, soap and water. This gets all of the brake dust off the tires and wheels and makes it easier for the cleaner to work. That also means less scrubbing for you.

Choose the appropriate cleaner for the type of wheels you have. If you have chrome wheels, use a chrome cleaner. If the wheels are anodized, coated or painted, use something that is less abrasive. If you're not sure what kind of wheels you have, be sure to pick a cleaner that advertises that it is safe for all wheels.

If possible, find a combination wheel and tire cleaner, that way you're only spending money on one product that will get both jobs done.

Brown Tires

If your vehicle's tires are brown, choose a product that not only cleans the tires, but restores them. The brown is from grease and built-up brake dust; and tire restorer will bring the black back.

Brushes

Be sure to choose a soft bristle brush so that you don't scratch the wheels. Even chrome can be scratched if you use a hard brush with an abrasive cleaner. Don't assume that just any brush is good enough, as there are many brushes on the market. If you have a vehicle with low profile tires, you may want to use a tire brush made for low profile tires.

Cloths

If you don't dry the wheels they could have water spots on them. Use a microfiber towel to dry the wheels, and you'll give them a shine at the same time. Once the wheels are completely dry, seal the surfaces with wheel wax. For this step, you'll need a clean towel to apply the wax and a clean towel to rub the wax in.

Top Car Accessories for All Seasons

Whether you just picked up a new Kia from Superior Kia or your your current Kia is a year or two old, you may want to add some accessories that are useful in all seasons. From remote start to backup cameras, you can add anything you want to upgrade your vehicle.

Remote Start

If your current vehicle doesn't have remote start; or you just bought a vehicle that doesn't have remote start because that was the only feature you wanted on a higher trim level, you can still add this feature. Remote start is great when it's cold or even in the summer when you might have condensation on the windshield and you want to clear it before you get in the vehicle.

Rearview Camera

If your current vehicle doesn't have a rearview camera, you can install one yourself - or have it installed by our service technicians. These are handy in many situations, including looking for cross traffic, ensuring that the kids aren't behind you and even hooking up a trailer by yourself.

Rubber Floor Mats

Rubber floor mats are great for the winter, but they also come in handy during the spring and summer months when it's raining. They protect the carpets from mud, melting snow and from getting soaked with wet feet. If you like the carpets, remove the mats when the weather is nice and put them back in when the forecast calls for rain.

Storage Solutions

Pick up various storage solutions to help organize your vehicle. Bins for the trunk or the cargo area in an SUV also keep items from sliding toward the front of the vehicle and out of reach. And, they keep small items contained so they are not scattered everywhere.

Power Windows and Door Locks

If your vehicle doesn't have power door locks and windows, you can add these for very little money. A technician will have to install them for you, but it will give you a lot of convenience if you're not ready to upgrade to a newer vehicle just yet.

Since you want this to be a surprise, hide the vehicle at a friend's house until Valentine's Day. Make sure it's sitting in the driveway on Valentine's Day!

Have your Valentine's friends take him or her out for a few hours to give you time to prepare a surprise meal. Dig out the linens, the fancy cloth napkins and some candles to add some atmosphere. Have the table set and dinner on the stove when your Valentine comes back home. And, be sure to have your favorite wine for dinner.

Don't forget the dessert. Choose something that your spouse loves but rarely eats. Whether you buy the special dessert or make it doesn't matter as much as that you remember what the dessert is. If you can make it, so much the better. Be sure to have a wine that goes with the dessert, too.

Get the Flowers

Don't forget the flowers and chocolate! Even though that is something you might do every year, it is something that is traditional for Valentine's Day, so this step should not be skipped. Pick out a premium box of chocolates; you don't want to go cheap when you're planning a special night in.

Plan a Movie

Pick a great movie for after dinner. Pick something your Valentine likes if you don't have the same tastes in movies. If your Valentine prefers mystery or sci-fi to romance, don't pick romance! What Makes a Kia Different

When you choose Superior Kia to lease or buy a Kia, you know what makes a Kia different. For those on the fence about Kia or another brand, when you test drive a Kia you'll learn that there are several things that make Kia different from other auto manufacturers.

Good Value

The best value is in the features that Kia models have that you would normally only find in high-end luxury brands. You'll find Napa leather interiors, automatic high beam lights, heated rear seats, ventilated and heated front seats and more on many Kia models.

Great Warranties

In 1998, Hyundai rolled out an industry first: a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty; and Kia followed shortly thereafter. Kia still has the warranty in place, along with 5-year, 60,000-mile bumper to bumper coverage, 5 years and unlimited miles of roadside assistance, a lifetime hybrid battery warranty and seven years of rust prevention.

Many Individual Options

Pick from many customizable options including luxury vehicles like the Equus or performance cars like the Genesis R-Spec. The performance model offers options such as Brembo brakes, standard rear-wheel drive and a Torsen limited slip differential. The Equus features tons of room, more horsepower than many vehicles in its class and lots of amenities at a fraction of the price of other luxury models.

Styling Oohs and Aahs

Since Kia has upped its game, the styling is more pleasing to the eye. Now, Kia models features LED lighting, newly redesigned interior cues and lines and even performance aero kits. When you look at many of the models, you won't believe they are Kia models if you haven't looked at a Kia in several years.

Visit Superior Kia

Stop by Superior Kia to test drive a new Kia, whether you choose an SUV model, mid-size sedan, luxury model or high-performance model.

Should You Buy New or Used?

When you decide to get a new Kia at Superior Kia, you have a couple of other choices to make: Whether to buy new or lease; or to buy used. You can get more car for the money with leasing or with buying used; however, when you lease, you usually trade it in at the end of the lease. Some people may buy out the lease, but when you do that, you're gong to pay all of the principle.

Benefits of Buying New

When you buy a new vehicle, you'll get all of the upgraded technology that is available. The new vehicle could last longer if you complete all of the maintenance on it. And, you'll have a warranty on the new vehicle in the event that something does go wrong.

And, when you buy a new vehicle, you have several options to choose with different trim levels. Additionally, if you want additional options, you have the ability to order them from the factory.

Benefit of Buying Used

When you buy a used vehicle, you can get a higher trim level for less money. The vehicle may be a year or two - or more - older, but if you can find something that is just a couple years old, you'll still have a lot of the newest technology.

If you are the type of person who likes to keep a vehicle as long as possible, buying used is the way to go. Once a used vehicle is paid off, the cost of ownership drops drastically. As long as you take care of the vehicle and complete all of the manufacturer's recommended maintenance, a used vehicle will last as long as a new vehicle would last.

Visit Superior Kia

Stop by our new or used showroom at Superior Kia to test drive a new or used model. Discuss the options with your salesperson so you know where you'll get the better deal, based on your needs, whether it's buying or leasing, or buying used.

Make the Perfect Homemade Kettle Corn

You don't have to wait until the fairs come around to get some great kettle corn. Stop by the grocery after you have your vehicle serviced at Superior Kia to pick up some popcorn kernels and make sure you have enough sugar on hand and you'll be able to make your own kettle corn.

Kettle Corn

Heat ¼ cup vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Once the oil gets hot, stir in ½ cup unpopped popcorn kernels and ¼ cup white sugar. Cover and shake the pot constantly so the sugar doesn't burn. Remove the pot from the heat when the popping slows to one pop every 2 to 3 seconds. Continue to shake the kettle for a few minutes until all of the popping has stopped. Pour the popcorn into a large bowl and allow the popcorn to cool. Stir it occasionally to break up any large clumps.

Variations

While kettle corn is usually made with white sugar, you can experiment with other types of granulated sugars, honey and even maple syrup.

Use the Stove Top Only

Don't try to make kettle corn in the microwave or anywhere else but on the stovetop. The taste is caused by the sugar caramelizing and for that, you need direct heat from a stove burner. If you have a glass top stove, lift the kettle off the burner to shake it, and then put the kettle back on the burner. You'll end up scratching the glass top if you slide the kettle on the burner. And, if you don't shake it, you'll burn the sugar.

Plan a Family Game Night!

Family game nights are a perfect way to spend a cold evening; however you should be sure that you have plenty of games, food and good drink. If you're in the market for a new vehicle, stop by our showroom at Superior Kia to test drive a new vehicle and then head out to the store to pick up games, food and drinks for a cozy evening.

Games

Make sure you have at least a couple games on hand. Old standards such as Yahtzee and Monopoly make great time wasters and will get the kids off the electronic devices for the evening. Another fun game is RummiKub but it's only for four. If you want to play with more than four people, get two sets.

You should also have a couple of decks of cards. Rummy, poker, blackjack and other games are also fun. And, don't forget Uno!

Food and Drink

Be sure to have some hot cocoa, coffee, tea and everyone's favorite soft drinks on hand. Great game-playing snacks. You don't want greasy snacks that will ruin the game pieces, though. Make sandwich squares, cookies, M&Ms, or any snack food you can eat with a fork. Be sure to have plenty of snacks on hand, especially if you are going to be playing for three or more hours.

Setting Up

If the dining table is small, move it out of the way and set up a folding table so you have plenty of space to spread out. You'll need room for the game, the food trays and the drinks so that everything is out of the way and not in danger of getting knocked over. If you're short on chairs, pick up some folding chairs.

Decorations

Even if it's not near any holidays, you can still decorate for game night. During the winter, use winter-themed decorations and paper plates. If you're wishing for spring to get here faster, you might decorate for the spring.

Favorite Ways to Keep Warm

Whether you're outside playing in the cold and snow or you just brought a load of groceries in, you'll want some favorite ways to keep warm. Or, you may be looking for ways to keep warm if your vehicle breaks down and you're waiting for a tow truck; or the power goes out because of an ice storm. One of the ways to ensure you don't break down in the vehicle is to have it serviced regularly at Superior Kia.

Keeping Warm in Your Vehicle

Keeping your vehicle serviced lessens the chance of it breaking down on you; however, it does not lessen the chance of sliding into a snow bank. The last thing you want to do is to constantly run the vehicle, especially if you don't expect a tow truck right away. You'll want enough gas to get you to the nearest gas station if you're stuck.

You should have an emergency kit in your vehicle, including extra blankets. Let the vehicle run for about 10 minutes every hour to keep the temperature somewhat reasonable and keep yourself wrapped in blankets. If you are planning a trip to a less inhabited area, it's also a good idea to bring a thermos of hot coffee or hot cocoa. This will also keep you warm while you are waiting for help.

Keeping Warm Outside

Whether you're outside for fun or because you have to be, keep warm by wearing layers of loose clothing. Tight clothing will not keep you warm. Long Johns and sweat pants will help keep you warm while you're shoveling snow or having a snowball fight. Wear mittens instead of gloves to keep your hands warmer. And, wear a hat. If your jacket has a hood, put the hood up over the hat.

Keeping Warm Inside

If you lose power and don't have wood heat, keep warm by closing off all of the rooms that you are not using. Have everyone stay in one room. If you have a generator, run a space heater, but be sure you do it safely. Never run the oven to try to keep the house warm. Wrap yourselves in blankets to help stay warm. If you are using a propane space heater designed to work inside, be sure the room is ventilated.

The 2017 Kia Sportage

Although the 2017 Kia Sportage is not yet available at dealerships, including Superior Kia, since it just made its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2015, it will soon be available. This fourth-generation compact CUV features a refined interior, new design and improvements on ride and handling. Additional changes include an advanced driver assistance system, UVO3 and additional technological features.

Updates that you'll notice right away across the line include soft-touch materials, a more spacious and luxurious cabin and better efficiency and performance. The new generation has three trim levels: the LX, EX and SX Turbo.

New Design

The 2017 Kia Sportage has new body panels, higher-positioned headlights, a new sharply detailed hood, lower and wider front clip for better cooling, and a new planted, aggressive stance. The width remains the same at 73 inches but the wheelbase is 1.2 inches longer at 105.1 inches. The overall length of the Sportage is now 176.4 inches, 1.6 inches longer than the 2016 model year.

The Sportage retained its sloping roof line and raked rear window, plus the signature short overhangs and wheels pushed out to the corners. The SX Turbo adds "ice cube" LED fog lights, LED tail lights, satin exterior trim, HID headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels and metal-look skid plates.

The Interior

The interior now features a driver-oriented cockpit including a laterally designed dashboard, a color touch screen that is angled 10 degrees toward the driver, switches for the dual-zone climate control that are easily identifiable for the driver and secondary audio controls.

Additionally, the Sportage features leather on the EX and SX Turbo trim levels and a D-shaped heated leather-wrapped steering wheel on the SX Turbo.

The headroom has increased by 0.2 inches in the front and 0.6 inches in the rear. Legroom has also increased to 38.2 inches in the rear. You also have more cargo room, including a dual-level cargo floor and a wider luggage area. This increased the cargo room from 26.1 cubic feet to 30.7 cubic feet.

3 Things to do in the New Year

Since it's the beginning of a new year and time to make New Year's resolutions, make plans for three major things to do this year at the same time. If you plan ahead of time, you'll be able to save the extra cash needed to do these activities or you could even plan to do these activities when there's a special on admission or the price of an item or even when gas prices are lower than ever.

Buy a New Kia at Superior Kia

In the upcoming new year, plan on a new Kia from Superior Kia. Decide what type of vehicle best fits your family, whether it's a sedan, coupe or minivan. Know what options you would like to have. You may think that you can't afford a vehicle at a higher trim level, but if you watch for sales and combine them with lease and finance specials, you may be able to get that dream Kia.

Take a Long Road Trip to a New Place

Plan a two-week road trip to a place you've never been before. Check into hotels or campgrounds for the best prices along the route and in the area you plan on visiting. If you like primitive camping, check out various parks and campgrounds. Some even allow free primitive camping. Hotels might run specials during certain times of the year. If you are a senior, student, active military or a veteran, be sure to ask about discounts, even if those discounts are not advertised. Many places will give you a discount even if it's not advertised.

Get to Know Your City

If you've lived in Cincinnati for all or most of your life and you haven't been to the zoo, been to many of the museums, if you've never been to Findlay Market or to many of the restaurant and shopping venues in the city, plan to do something every weekend. If you need to watch the cash flow, plan some free or low-cost events such as visiting a park, visiting a museum or visiting a mall you've never been to for some window shopping.

The 5 Most Memorable Scenes From Holiday Movies

Some Christmas movies warrant watching any time of the year; and those are the movies with the most memorable scenes. When you pick up a vehicle with a DVD player from Superior Kia to take on your next road trip, be sure to add some of these movies to keep the kids occupied.

1. A Christmas Story

If you've ever seen "A Christmas Story," you know that one of the best scenes is when Ralphie is told "You'll shoot your eye out, kid," in response to his request for a Red Rider BB gun. If you haven't seen this movie yet, it's one that you should pick up now. And, make sure your kids get to see it, too.

2. A Griswold Family Christmas

If you have no idea what happens when you give someone you love a membership to the "Jelly of the Month Club," we suggest you watch "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" before you make that decision.

3. How the Grinch Stole Christmas

If you're having a problem teaching the true meaning of Christmas to your kids, make sure they watch "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Since 1966, the Grinch has been teaching children big and small how hearts can grow three sizes bigger.

4. White Christmas

Be sure to catch this, especially the part where Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney sing their duet, "Count Your Blessings."

5. Home Alone

This movie has tons of great scenes, so it's hard to just pick one. Just about every time Kevin gets one of the bandits in a booby trap, but two of the best scenes include his after shave encounter and "keep the change, you filthy animal!"

Visit Superior Kia

Stop by Superior Kia to test drive any model that features DVD players in the rear seat, and be sure to pick up any of these great movies, especially if you haven't seen them yet. You'll definitely keep the kids occupied on long road trips.

Gasoline or Diesel - Which engine is right for you?

More and more people prefer diesel engines because of the benefits a diesel offers, but is a diesel engine right for you? This depends on what you are using the vehicle for and how often you drive it. Kia is developing multi-use vehicles because of the demand for this type of vehicle, so keep your eyes on this blog or visit Superior Kia often to keep up with Kia's innovations.

Diesel Engines

If you need something with excellent fuel mileage and you often tow or haul heavy loads, a diesel engine might be for you. Diesel engines have more torque than a gas engine and they can run for longer periods of time without needing a break. However, diesel fuel is more expensive that gas. If you use your vehicle frequently, especially for heavy use, the trade off for the more expensive fuel could save you money.

Gas Engines

A gas engine is quieter than a diesel engine and it doesn't need quite as much upkeep as a diesel engine; however, if you use your vehicle often, put tons of miles on it, or use it for hauling heavy loads or frequently tow, a gas engine might cost you more than a diesel engine. If you don't tow, but do travel a lot of highway miles, a gas engine might be more beneficial because of the higher speed performance and better acceleration. Gas also has lower emissions than diesel. What you won't get with gas is the excellent power on the bottom end and a longer lifespan.

Chose the Right Engine and Visit Superior Kia

Determine what you need to do with your vehicle, whether it's hauling a trailer or traveling highway miles and commuting to help you decide which type of engine is better for your situation. Visit Superior Kia to test drive a new Kia or to learn more about Kia's upcoming multi-use vehicles.

5 Best Holiday Decorations

On your way back from test driving a new Kia at Superior Kia, stop by the craft store to pick up the items you need to create some great handmade Christmas decorations this year. None of these are overly expensive, yet they look like you invested a ton. Keep your guests guessing!

Sparkly Tea Lights

For each tea light, pick up a pint-sized mason jar. You'll need glue and enough sparkles to cover the bottom 2/3 of the jar. Coat the outside of the jar with glue and roll it in the sparkles. Add a tea candle or other small candle for the perfect effect for your dining room table.

Fireplace Decorating

Find an old coal bin or wood holder. Add maple logs 3- to 6-inches in diameter and place them next to the fireplace. If you bought, or are buying a live Christmas tree, cut off some branches and arrange them along the mantle. You might want to put a decorative towel under the branches in the event they drip sap on the mantle. Add bulbs and garland to finish off the look.

Icicle Lights

This year, put out icicle lights. The LED lights look like hanging icicles and they change colors.

Christmas Cards

If you have a bar with a decorative counter-to-roof support, hang the Christmas cards on the supports. Or, hang them around a door jamb between two rooms. As people walk by, they'll be able to see the cards and they give the room tons of Christmas spirit.

Candle Centerpiece

Set a large pillar candle in the middle of a decorative plate or low-sided bowl that is at least 4 inches bigger in diameter than the candle. Add pine branches, pine cones and a touch of spray snow for a dining room table centerpiece.

Kia Models Awarded on Top Quality by J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

If you are in the market for a quality vehicle, stop by Superior Kia to test drive any of the models we have on our lot. With steady improvements over the years, Kia is now considered a quality leader in the industry. The 2015 model years finished strongly in the J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Initial Quality Study and received two initial quality awards: one for the 2015 Kia Soul (Compact MPV) and one for the 2015 Kia Sorento (midsize SUV).

Kia ranked second among all brands including luxury and first with an overall score of 86 among non-luxury brands. The lower this score, the better the vehicle. Kia's score of 86 is 26 PP100 (problems per 100 vehicles) better than the industry average and a 20-point improvement from the 2014 model year.

U.S. Initial Quality Study

This study is in its 29th year and it looks at problems that vehicle owners experience in the first 90 days of ownership. The eight problem categories that the IQS looks at include the exterior, features / controls / displays, the driving experience, seats, audio / communication / navigation / entertainment, interior, engine / transmission, and heating / ventilation and air conditioning.

The study looks at design-related problems and defects and malfunctions. Kia has the least number of design problems in non-luxury brands. The Soul has the least number of design-related problems and the least number of defect and malfunction problems in the compact MPV segment with a score of 77 PP100. The average in the segment is 89 PP100.

This year, the Kia Soul improved its own score by 10.2 PP100 for the exterior and by 7.1 PP100 for the interior.

The Sorento scored 81 PP100, 26 points better than its 2014 score and 33 points better than the segment average. This makes the Kia Sorento the highest-scoring vehicle in its class. It improved by 11 PP100 in audio / communication / entertainment /navigation; by 6.4 PP100 in engine / transmission; and b 5.4 PP100 on the exterior.

5 Bad Winter Habits That Could be Ruining Your Car

When you pick up your new Kia from Superior Kia, change some of the winter habits you might have that ruin your car. Many of these things are not things you even think of all the time because they're not something you do every week or even every month.

1. Windshield Wipers

You should check the wipers at least every season change. If you use them often, check them more often. Because the wipers are a vital part of the safety equipment on your vehicle, they should be checked more often; and you should change them as soon as you see them leaving streaks on the windshield. And, don't forget the rear wiper.

2. Changing the Tires

If you prefer winter and summer tires instead of all-season tires, one of the biggest bad habits you have is waiting too long to change from summer to winter tires. If you should happen to get caught in a snow storm, those summer tires aren't going to do you any good; and they could cause you to slide off the road.

3. Tire Pressure

If you don't use nitrogen in your vehicle's tires, temperature changes cause the air in the tires to expand and contract. This leads to low tire pressure after a while. It's a good idea to keep a portable air pump and pressure gauge in the vehicle. Should the tires become too low and you continue driving on them, you'll cause them to wear improperly. You could also notice decreased handling if the tire pressure is not correct.

4. Ignoring the Sun

Just because it's cold out, that doesn't mean the sun's ultraviolet rays are any less damaging. Keep your dash and other materials in your vehicle protected by using a sunshade on your windshield. This will slow down cracking, fading and blistering of interior materials, particularly the dashboard.

5. Speeding

You never know when you're going to hit black ice in the winter. Even if temperatures eek above freezing, you could still hit a patch of black ice. Instead of speeding around, keep your speed steady and drive under the speed limit, especially when you see water seeping onto the roadway from melting snow and ice.

All New 2017 Kia Cadenza Preview

If you are planning to purchase a new vehicle in 2016, you'll want to stop by Superior Kia to test drive the 2017 Kia Cadenza when it is released sometime in 2016. The luxury sedan has an all-new look, including a grille similar to a Maserati. The new version features a set of quad LED fog light nacelles, a different grille with lower and upper indents and sharper creases.

Additional exterior changes include a longer hood, a lower and wider body and newly designed LED taillights and headlights.

As of late November/early December 2015, Kia hasn't released any other details including details about interior changes and what engine and transmission options will be available for the Cadenza. Since the previous models relied heavily on the Kia Optima, it is expected that Kia will also take many cues from that model for the new Cadenza.

Trim Levels and Standard Features

Currently, the Cadenza features two trim levels: the Limited and the Premium. The less expensive Premium trim level has plenty of standard features and it is expected that the 2017 model year will have at least the same standard features.

Standard convenience features in the current model year include a HomeLink garage door transmitter, automatic temperature control, heated front seats, front dual-zone air conditioning, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, remote keyless entry and navigation.

Standard entertainment features include an 8-inch primary LCD screen, 12 Infinity speakers and 1 gigabyte of internal memory capacity.

Standard safety features include rear side impact airbags, ignition disable, a security system, ABS brakes, fully automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, front fog lights, and rear parking sensors.

The Limited features many of the same standard features including dual front impact airbags, perimeter/approach lights, an overhead airbag, a low tire pressure warning system, rear parking sensors, delay off headlights and variably intermittent wipers. Additionally, the Limited features lane departure warning and a blind spot sensor.

Sweet Apple Pie Recipe

One of the must-have desserts for Thanksgiving is apple pie. And, if you make it yourself, it's even better. Stop by Superior Kia to test drive a new vehicle, and then head over to the grocery store to pick up the ingredients you need to make the best apple pie for Thanksgiving.

Ingredients

  • 6 to 8 medium apples, choose a hard, sweet apple such as Washington or Fuji, peeled and cored
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 ½ teaspoons nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1 double pie crust
  • 1 egg
  • Granulated sugar
  • Cinnamon

Directions

Cut the apples into slices. Mix them with the sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves in a saucepan. Cook on medium heat until apples are cooked through, stirring frequently.

Mix the cornstarch and water in a small bowl, making sure there are no lumps. Add a ladle full of the hot juice from the apples and mix thoroughly. Strain if needed. Pour the mixture into the apples. Cook until the mixture thickens, then remove from heat and let it cool.

When the mixture gets to room temperature, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Pour the mixture into the pie crust. Cover with the second crust. Cut decorative slits in the top pie crust. Beat the egg thoroughly and paint the top crust with it, excluding the crimped edges. Sprinkle the crust with granulated sugar and cinnamon. Cover the crimped edges with foil. Bake for 45 minutes to an hour, removing the foil for the last 15 minutes. The pie is done when it is nicely browned.

Notes

This pie is best made the day before Thanksgiving so that the filling has time to set for the big dinner.

Taste the filling before you add the cornstarch. If you prefer a sweeter pie, add another quarter to half cup of brown sugar.

Delicious Turkey Recipes for Thanksgiving

Making the perfect turkey is a must for Thanksgiving and it's almost always a worry for many people. Make a perfect turkey every time without the worry by taking some easy steps. And, make a fool-proof gravy to go with it. When you go out to pick up the ingredients for your dinner, be sure to stop by Superior Kia to test drive a new vehicle if you've been considering picking up something before the end of the year.

Roasted Turkey

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the giblets and the neck from the turkey. Rinse the turkey inside and out. Place the turkey on the rack in the roasting pan. Rub it with salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder and poultry seasoning. If you like a little spice to it, add Badia Redfish seasoning to the mix.

Rub the entire turkey with softened butter. Prepare your favorite stuffing. Stuff the bird. Cover it with foil, leaving a slight opening near the top so that the steam is released. Cook the turkey according to instructions with the bird. About a half hour before the bird is expected to be done, remove the foil so that it will finish browning.

Remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes before carving.

Turkey Gravy

Make a roux with 4 tablespoons of butter and about a half cup of flour to start. Add flour until the roux mixture is as thick as cookie dough. Cook the roux for 8 to 10 minutes. Add dripping from the turkey, stirring constantly, until the gravy is the thickness you desire. It will start to thicken as it cools, so you might want to make it a tad thin.

3 Simple DIY Projects for November

After you pick up your new car from Superior Kia, head over to the craft store to pick up the items you need to make some great projects for November. You can make centerpieces for the Thanksgiving table or other fall decorations for the rest of the house without spending a ton of money.

Cranberry and Flowers

Pick up some pint mason jars if you don't have any on hand. For this project, you'll also need cranberries and some fall flowers. Fill the jars with cranberries, then top off with water to keep them fresh. You can use fresh flowers or silk flowers. Cut the leaves off the stems so that there are no leaves below the top of the mason jar. Arrange the flowers in the jar.

Pumpkin Vases

Pick up pumpkins that are at least the same height as a tin can. Using the can, mark a circle on the top of the pumpkin. Carve the center of the pumpkin out and then slide the can into the pumpkin. Fill the can with water and add your favorite live flowers. You could also leave the water out of the can and add silk flowers or other holiday decorations.

Candle Holders

You can make different sized candle holders from tea candle holders to large "fat" candle holders. Find the size glass, jar, vase or other decorative glass container for the size candles you are using. Layer lentils, dried beans and corn in the bottom. Make each layer even and high enough so the top of the candle is even with or about 2 inches below the lip of the glass, depending on your preference.

Winterize Your Vehicle Today

When you pick up your new Kia from Superior Kia, you'll want to winterize it this time of year. Or, if you are driving a Kia that's just a couple years old, you should contact our service department for an appointment to winterize it. Even a new Kia should be winterized, especially if you opted to have summer and winter tires on your vehicle instead of all-season tires.

Battery and Alternator

Make sure the charging system is working properly. If the battery is not keeping a full charge, the alternator will work harder and this could wear it out sooner rather than later. With a brand new Kia, you don't really have to worry about this the first year unless you bought your Kia several months ago and still consider it "new." The cold drains batteries, which makes it use more juice to start the vehicle. Older batteries that seemed to be working just fine could let you down on a particularly cold morning. It's best to have the battery checked and replaced if it shows any signs of weakness or if it is close to its warranty end date.

Wiper Blades and the Washer Fluid

One of the most important things on your vehicle during the winter is the windshield wipers and washer. Broken wipers and a washer system could make you crash just as fast as bad brakes. Be sure that your wiper blades are fresh and that the washer system works and has fluid that won't freeze in below-freezing temperatures.

Tires

The tires on your vehicle play a big part in whether you get stuck or get home. If you have all-season tires on your vehicle, be sure they have enough tread so that you have excellent traction. If you have summer tires on your Kia, it's time to change over to winter tires before that first snowfall. Before changing to winter tires, be sure they are not dry rotted from sitting all summer; and be sure they have enough tread on them to last the season.

Give Your Kia the Care it Needs; Schedule Service

If you want your vehicle to last and last; or if you want to get the most you can possibly get on it when you trade it in, you have to take care of your Kia. This means keeping it detailed and keeping it serviced. When you take care of your vehicle it will take care of you.

The Exterior

Keep the exterior detailed; either do it yourself or take it to a car wash. You'll need to keep the paint washed and waxed since the elements and the crud that mother nature throws at it wears on the paint. Mud, bird poop and salty slush all wear on the paint over time. Don't forget about the wheels. Make sure you use the proper chemicals for the type of wheels you have, whether they are aluminum, alloy, chrome or steel.

Service

Keeping your vehicle serviced is the best way to keep it in good shape. You'll need to make an appointment with the service department at Superior Kia to have it maintained according to the manufacturer's recommendations. You'll find the recommendations in your owner's manual; or you can call us with the VIN number and we'll tell you when it's time for your next service interval.

Service intervals depend on the model and how you drive the vehicle. If you tow frequently, drive more than 13,000 miles per year or if you drive in the mountains frequently, you may need to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for heavy driving.

Heavy driving may include having to change the transmission fluid sooner, having to change the brakes sooner and having to change the oil sooner. It also means that you may have to have your vehicle's mechanical aspects checked more often, including belts, hoses, brakes, suspension components and other wear and tear components.

Set Up a Service Appointment at Superior Kia

Call the service department at Superior Kia to set up a service appointment for maintenance or repairs. Keeping your vehicle in excellent condition means that you can get more for it on trade in or make it last longer if you plan on keeping it.

20 Year/200,000 Mile Power Train Protection

When you purchase a new vehicle at Superior Kia, you'll automatically get the 20/200 Powertrain Protection plan as long as you are not using the vehicle for commercial use. As long as you have the required maintenance done at our service department, the Powertrain Protection continues for up to 20 years or 200,000 miles.

20/200 Powertrain Protection Coverage

The powertrain protection covers the engine, including all lubricated parts, the intake and exhaust manifolds and the engine block. The engine block is only covered if damage is due to the failure of an internally lubricated part. It also covers the transmission and the transfer case, if applicable. This includes all internally lubricated parts, the transmission mounts and the torque converter. The gear cases and housings are only covered if an internally lubricated part fails and damages the casings and housings.

Also covered is the drive axle, including the bearings, axle shafts, 4WD actuator and propeller shafts. And, the turbocharger or supercharger is also covered if it is factory installed.

Extra Maintenance Required

Technically, there is no extra maintenance required; however, what you need to do is to bring your vehicle in to Superior Kia for oil and filter changes, tire rotations and transmission fluid changes. This must be done within 1,000 miles of the required service intervals to keep the powertrain protection valid.

This doesn't mean that you don't have to do the manufacturer's recommended maintenance. It is recommended that you do this; however if you don't, it does not affect the powertrain protection.

Cost and Availability of the Powertrain Protection

The Powertrain Protection is only available through Superior Kia and other Superior dealerships in the area. There is no extra cost to you for the Powertrain Protection; and you just need to follow the vehicle maintenance requirements that are fully explained in the Powertrain Protection certificate to qualify for the benefits this protection affords you.

Service and Repairs

You must also have all of the service on your Kia completed at our service department. And, all repairs covered under the 20/200 Powertrain Protection must be performed at our dealership.

Transfers and Catches

First, there are no catches or hidden fees attached with the 20/200 Powertrain Protection. Just have the service and repairs completed at Superior Kia. The 20/200 Powertrain Protection is not transferable. When you sell or trade your Kia, the Powertrain Protection ends.

Fun DIY Kid's Costume

If you are taking your kids out for Halloween this year, make sure your vehicle has been serviced at Superior Kia, and make sure you have a great Halloween costume for them. Some fun kid costumes are those you make; and homemade costumes are often better than store-bought costumes.

Devil

You'll need several things for this, so you may have to head out to the craft store for this one.

  • Red sweatshirt
  • Fabric glue
  • About a half-yard of red ribbon
  • Large safety pin
  • Red marabou boa
  • Metal coat hanger, straightened
  • Red rubber glove
  • 1 yard of red felt
  • Cotton balls
  • Red headband
  • Red glitter
  • Red paint
  • Wooden dowel

Instructions for the body:

Cut the sleeves off the sweatshirt about 3 inches from the neck. Glue the raw edges under. If you want to re-use the costume next year, you might want to sew the edges under. Starting at the center of the neck, cut a 4-inch slit down the back of the sweatshirt. Attach the ribbon to the safety pin, and then thread the ribbon through the neck casing. The ends will be used to tie a bow. Glue or sew the marabou to the neck, and then trim the excess.

To make the tail:

Cut two 3-inch high and 3-inch wide triangles from the felt. Cut a 4-inch wide strip of felt to the length you want for the tail. Fold the strip in half lengthwise and glue or sew the edges. Turn the strip inside out (after it dries if you used glue). Push the coat hanger through the tail. Glue the triangles over the tip. Glue the other end of the tail to the sweatshirt. Wrap a small piece of the marabou around the base.

To make the horns and pitchfork:

Cut two of the fingers off the rubber gloves. Stuff them with cotton balls. Coat the "fingers" with glue and cover them with red glitter. Glue the "fingers" to the headband. For the pitchfork, cut two pieces of the red felt into the shape of a pitchfork head. You'll use the dowel as a handle. Glue or sew the edges together, making sure you leave an opening at the bottom center. Once the pitchfork is dry, stuff it with cotton balls. Dust the pitchfork with red glitter. Paint the wooden dowel red. Once the dowel is dry, glue it to the pitchfork.

Trunk or Treat with Your Kia!

If you are taking part in a trunk or treat event this year, you'll want to decorate your Kia's trunk as some thing that will give the kids a good scare when they stop at your trunk to pick up candy. Change the look of your Kia by decorating the trunk, rear door or side door of your SUV. If you are in the market for a new Kia, stop by Superior Kia for a test drive before Halloween so you have a new vehicle to dress up.

Cinderella

String white lights across the side door of your SUV, add carriage wheels drawn on paper over the Kia's regular wheels, and fix up the rear seat to look like a carriage seat. Don't forget the window curtain.

Ghosts

Make several ghosts of different sizes and hang them from the trunk lid or from the SUV hatch. Add different colored lighting or dye white sheets to make the ghosts different colors.

The Zoo

Add stuffed animals and hay behind a gate. Some baby gates look like the front of a cage, or you can use part of an ex-pen for dogs to make the "cage."

Dr. Seuss

Pick a Dr. Seuss story and make cardboard characters from the story. Prop them up in the trunk along with accessories that help tell the story.

Your Favorite Team

Decorate the trunk or back of your SUV with your team colors. Dress up a large doll or a young child as a football star.

The Great Pumpkin

Add pumpkins and a cutout of Linus and Snoopy to create a "Great Pumpkin" scene in the trunk or hatch of your SUV.

Scary Haunted House

Decorate your trunk with a skeleton, chains, ghosts and pictures of scary people who died in the 1800s for a haunted house. Add haunted house music to go with it.

Visit Superior Kia

Be sure to stop by Superior Kia to test drive a new vehicle. If you pick it up before Halloween, you'll have a great vehicle for trunk or treat. And, if you are not participating in any trunk or treat events, you can still use these ideas to dress up your Kia in your driveway.

Halloween Party Mix

  • 1 Egg white, large
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbs. Packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tbs. Chili powder
  • ½ tsp. Salt
  • 5 cups Unsalted popcorn, popped
  • 2 cups Mini pretzel twists
  • 2 cups Roasted peanuts, salted*

* If any of your guests have peanut allergies, substitute another type of nut or more pretzels.

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Using a whisk, mix the egg white, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, the chili powder and the salt in a large bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients and toss everything together, making sure all of the snack food is coated with the liquid mixture.

Spread the mixture on the baking sheet and bake it until it's crispy, about 20 minutes. Stir the mixture once or twice during the baking time. Cool in the pan on a wire rack until the mixture is completely cooled.

Parmesan Bread Stick Brooms

  • 2 1-pound pieces of frozen pizza dough, thawed
  • 2 tbs. Milk
  • ¼ cup Grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Roll out each piece of dough into a 6-inch by 10-inch rectangle. Flour a chef's knife and cut each piece into six 10-inch strips. Make 3-inch cuts lengthwise at one end of each of the strips. Keep the cuts about ¼ inch apart. These are the broom straws. Twist and pull the uncut part to form a broom handle. Transfer the broom sticks to the pan, keeping them a couple of inches apart. Spread out the cut ends. Brush the bread stick brooms with milk and sprinkle them with the Parmesan cheese. Bake until the sticks turn golden, about 15 to 18 minutes.

A Pumpkin Pie Recipe

After you pick up a new Kia from Superior Kia, stop by the grocery store to pick up the ingredients for this easy pumpkin pie. If you have tried to make pumpkin pies before and can't seem to find the perfect recipe, you haven't tried this one.

You Will Need:

  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • ½ tsp. ground ginger
  • ¼ tsp. ground cloves
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 15-ounce can pure pumpkin
  • 1 12-ounce can evaporated milk
  • 1 10-inch deep dish pie crust

Homemade Whipped Cream

Whip 2 pints of heavy cream until the soft peak stage. Add 1 tsp. vanilla and whip until the cream is stiff. Fold in confectioner's sugar to taste, starting with ½ cup.

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix the sugar, salt, cinnamon, ginger and cloves in a small bowl. Beat the eggs in a large bowl. Stir in the pumpkin and the spice mixture until the mixture is well-mixed.

Add the evaporated milk a third of the can at a time, mixing well after each addition.

Place the pie shell on a cookie sheet lined with foil. Pour the mixture into the pie shell.

Bake the pumpkin pie at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake the pumpkin pie for 40 to 50 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool the pie on a wire rack for at least 2 hours.

If the crust is browning too fast, cover just the crust with aluminum foil. About 10 minutes before the pie is finished check the crust. If you want it darker, remove the foil.

National Chicken Month: Easy and Quick Chicken Recipes

After you pick up a new car or SUV from Superior Kia, stop by the grocery to make sure you have all the ingredients you need to make this easy and quick chicken recipe. This is actually two recipes in one: You can just use the rub or you can also add barbecue sauce, depending on your mood.

Spicy Baked Chicken

  • Chicken thighs and/or legs, skin on
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Badia Redfish Seasoning
  • Poultry seasoning
  • Hickory smoke barbecue sauce or Jack Daniels barbecue sauce

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit if you're going to use the oven or preheat the grill if you've cooking the chicken outside.

Line the bottom of a roasting pan or sheet pan with foil. Arrange the chicken skin side up in the pan. Sprinkle the spices to taste on the chicken. To get the full spice flavor, don't be too light-handed with the spices.

If you are in the mood for barbecue, spread 1-2 teaspoons barbecue sauce on each piece. Bake until done, about 45 minutes in the oven. Grill cooking time will depend on how hot you have the grill.

Chicken Salad

This is perfect for leftover chicken. Remove the skin from the chicken and debone it. Put the chicken in a food processor. Process until the chicken is chunked up. This might be two or three quick 1-second pulses for a couple of thighs.

Remove the chicken and add diced onion, relish, salt and pepper. Mix everything together. Add enough mayonnaise to make it as sticky as you like it. Serve on your favorite bread for sandwiches or include it on a green salad.

Future Kia Features

When you test drive your next Kia at Superior Kia, look for some new features including new engines and new technology. Kia is always upgrading technology and adding new things to vehicles, even base models. Just because a certain model might look the same on the outside, don't let it fool you. The 2016 Kia Optima is such an example.

Body Changes

Body changes might include a more aggressive-looking stance, new headlight assemblies, additional or new chrome. The 2016 Kia Optima, while retaining most of what it had on the 2015 model, does add all of these new features.

Unseen Improvements

Some improvements are invisible because they are under the skin; however, you will notice them if you drive the vehicle. Let's take the Optima again. If you own an older model and are ready to trade it in for the 2016 model year, you'll notice that it has a better ride, handles better, has more refinement, more space and more technology.

Additionally, the Optima has a lighter yet stronger body. This means that it gets better gas mileage, and a smoother and quieter ride. Kia is also adding turbochargers to more of its engines so you can still have great fuel economy with more power.

For the 2016 model year, the Optima will features a new 1.6-liter turbocharged engine on the LX trim level. The engine will be backed by a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. This new engine makes 178 horsepower while the current 2.4-liter engine in the base trim level makes 185 horsepower. There's not much difference in the horsepower, but you'll notice the savings at the gas pump.

Additional Technologies

Additional technology you'll find in some Kia models include a 360-degree camera system, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. And the new Optima, and other models in the future, will features connectivity with Android and Apple CarPlay so you're not left out no matter which of the two smart phone platforms you use.

Cincinnati Home Games in September

Before you head out to the home games, stop by Superior Kia to test drive a vehicle that is perfect for tailgating. While most people think you need a pickup truck to tailgate, that is just not true: You can tailgate just as well from an SUV. It's even better because the lift gate gives you even more shade; and it's got plenty of room to carry everything you need for a great tailgate party.

Game Date and Times

Plan your tailgating parties for the Cincinnati Bengals home games. Home games are on Sunday, September 20 at noon with the Chargers; Sunday, October 4 at noon with the Chiefs; Sunday, October 11 at noon with the Seahawks; Thursday, November 5 at 7:25 p.m. with the Browns; Monday, November 16 at 7:30 p.m. with the Texans; Sunday, November 29 at noon with the Rams; Sunday, December 13 at noon with the Steelers and Sunday, January 3 at noon with the Ravens.

Tailgating Must Haves

Be sure you don't forget anything when you head out. Be sure the cooler is filled with ice, beer, soda and the food you choose. Pack lawn chairs, cups, plates, forks, and dessert. Even if you have an SUV with a lift gate, you may want to bring a tent canopy for some extra shade, especially if you tend to burn easily. And don't forget the sunblock for those early fall game days. Even though it's in the fall, the sun can still burn you.

Of course, you won't want to forget the grill. Instead of loading a full size grill into your Kia, get a kettle grill or another small grill just for tail gate parties. If you have a charcoal grill, be sure to bring plenty of charcoal and lighter fluid.

And, of course you don't want to forget the football. While you're waiting for the food to cook; and while you're waiting to get into the stadium, you'll want something to do. What better way to spend the time than tossing a few passes?

Back to School Essentials

When it's time to go back to school, you'll have a lot of shopping to do. The kids need school clothes, books, notebooks, pencils, pens, new crayons, a computer or tablet depending on age and backpacks and lunch boxes. And, you may need a new car, especially if the kids have outgrown your old sedan. Stop by Superior Kia to test drive a larger sedan or SUV so you have more room for bigger kids.

It's easy to forget something during school shopping, especially if you have two or more kids. Some schools require some type of uniform, whether it's an actual uniform or a requirement that students wear a certain color or type of pants and shirt. Creating a list with the help of your children, especially if they are older, will make your shopping experience less stressful.

For clothing and shoes, make a list for each child. Don't forget the school's requirements for color and style, gym clothes, a bathing suit if the school has a pool and any special clothing for extra curricular activities.

While some schools provide paper, writing utensils and other items needed, many schools now require that students provide their own, even at elementary level. If you do have to buy these things for grade school students, be sure to have notebooks, plain paper, writing paper with larger lines for the early grades, crayons, pens, pencils, a stapler, glue, a pencil bag, lunchbox and book bag for your grade school student.

Older children will need notebooks, pens, pencils, a book bag, a small lunch cooler and possibly a computer or tablet. Older children may need a notebook for each subject.

Celebrities with Kias

When you stop by Superior Kia to test drive a Kia, just remember that even celebrities drive Kia models. Angela Lansbury drives a Kia Soul even though her millions could buy a Bentley. Lansbury has six Golden Globes, six Tony awards and an Oscar - yet, she prefers her Kia Soul.

Another actress - Isabel Lucas - also prefers driving a Kia - a Kia Spectra to be precise. She was recently sporting the Spectra in San Feliz, California.

And, Lebron James really does drive a Kia. That says a lot when a celebrity drives something he endorses, so stop by our showroom and test drive what Lebron James drives: a Kia K900.

Kia Features

Even most base models have a host of features. When you stop by our showroom to test drive the Kia you're most interested in, be sure to ask your salesperson about standard features, features available in higher trim levels and available options for the trim level you are interested in.

Cheap and Easy Ways to Organize Your Glove Box

When you drive off in your new Kia from Superior Kia, the first thing you do is to load up the glove box with "stuff." The manual, registration, insurance, cords for electronics and more all find their way into the glove box - and no matter how much you try to keep everything nice and neat, you find yourself trying to fit everything in just right so the glove box will close.

You can buy glove box organizers, however, you can do this cheaper. For documents, pick up a soft sectioned wallet - the kind you might use for recipes. If the tabs have preprinted labels, you can print your own and stick them over the current labels. Keep things like your insurance, registration and other important papers in there.

Make sure your owner's manual and other papers pertaining to your vehicle are in the vinyl or leather binder that they come in. If the binder won't close properly, you may want to keep extra papers in the wallet you purchased.

Keep cords neatly coiled by using a trinket box from the dollar store. If you prefer to not use small boxes, wrap the cords around themselves to keep them from snaking all over the place.

Instead of keeping a large tissue box in the glove box - which takes up a ton of space, keep a small packet or two in the glove box. They are small enough to keep two - and when you use up one, replace it with another one so you always have two with you.

If you like to throw change in the glove box, get a small container with a lid so the change doesn't spill out. Not only does it stay in one place, but it's easily accessible for tolls and non-automated car washes.

Waterfalls to Visit in Ohio

If you prefer to stay close to home this summer, you can take a short road trip to waterfalls around the state. If you've never even considered that Ohio has waterfalls, you just have to find them - and this would be a perfect time to do it - especially if you just bought a new vehicle from Superior Kia.

Big Lyons Falls

This is actually a pair of falls - big and little - in Mohican State Park. The falls are along a two-mile loop hike.

Charleston Falls

If you're in Miami County after a good rain, be sure to visit Charleston Falls Preserve to find these falls.

Old Man's Cave

Visit the upper and lower falls of Old Man's Cave in Hocking Hills. During the summer, the falls may not look like much, but after a heavy rainfall, you'll see a ton of water.

Buttermilk Falls

Visit Cuyahoga Valley National Park south of Cleveland to see this gorgeous waterfall.

Cedar Falls

Cedar Falls, located in Hocking Hills, isn't one of the widest falls you'll ever see, but there's a great pool under the falls that you can cool off in.

Fallsville Falls

These waterfalls are on Clear Creek in Clinton County farmland and have more than one step before they reach the bottom.

Paine Falls

Visit Panesville to see a wider two-tiered waterfall. This waterfall is easy to get to, too.

Brandywine Falls

To see the most impressive waterfall in the Lake Erie Watershed, visit Cuyahoga Valley National Park to see the Brandywine Falls. Hike out to the overlook for some great pictures against the falls and to spend a nice day away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Visit Superior Kia

Before you head out on a waterfall hunt, be sure to have your vehicle serviced at Superior Kia. If you are considering a new vehicle this summer, stop by to test drive your next new vehicle before you go so you can enjoy a new car when you take your trip.

Refreshing Summer Dessert Recipes

If your relatives are planning a road trip to your home, you may want to have some great summer dessert ready for them. Since you may be using your vehicle to take your relatives to different places in Cincinnati, be sure to have it serviced at Superior Kia before the family arrives.

Fast Ice Cream

Whip 1 pint of heavy whipping cream and 1 teaspoon vanilla until soft peaks form. Mix in 14 ounces of sweetened condensed milk until the mixture is thick and well combined. At this point, you can add anything else you want to flavor the ice cream - or it's good as it is. This is a soft-serve ice cream, so you don't want to freeze it for more than 6 hours.

Strawberry Sauce

This can be added to the Fast Ice Cream recipe or it can be used for strawberry shortcake.

  • 4 cups strawberries, hulled, washed and sliced in half or quarters (depending on the size)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 to 3 tablespoons cornstarch

Bring the berries and the sugar to a rolling boil over medium heat. Boil for 1 minute. Remove the berry mixture from the heat. Mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch and 1 tablespoon cold water. Add it to the berry mixture. Slide the mixture on the hot burner and stir until the cornstarch is incorporated. If you want the mixture thicker, add another tablespoon of cornstarch/water mix. The berry mixture will thicken as it cools.

Add some of the berry mixture (once cooled completely) to Fast Ice Cream or make your favorite shortcakes for strawberry shortcake. Garnish either dessert with homemade whipped cream (recipe below).

Homemade Whipped Cream

  • 2 pints heavy cream or whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 to 1 ½ cups sifted confectioner's sugar (to taste)

Whip the whipping cream and vanilla until stiff peaks form. Fold in the confectioner's sugar starting with 1 cup. If you want your whipped cream sweeter, add more confectioner's sugar. Keep refrigerated - it will last about 2 days in the fridge before it starts to separate.

When you load up your Kia for a road trip, you should have had it checked - or serviced if necessary - at Superior Kia. And, before you hit the road, make sure you have some road trip games ready especially if you have children. The games not only keep them entertained, but they can make the time pass faster for you, too.

Create a Story

This is more fun if you have more people. You can keep a record of the story by having someone write down each person's contribution - or you can record it to type it out later. Have one person start with a story line. Each person takes a turn adding a sentence to the story. Play until you come to the end of the story or you get tired of the game.

Alphabet Soup

Pick a category such as animals. The first person says any animal name. The next person has to say an animal that starts with the last letter of the first person's word. For example, if you say 'lizard,' the next person might say 'dog.' When you run out of things in one category, choose another category.

License Plate Game

Before you leave, make a list of all 50 states. Make columns with each person's name. The first person to call out a license plate from a state gets a check mark in their column by that state. The person who saw the most plates from different states wins.

I Spy Alphabet Soup

Put a spin on the I Spy game by making it harder. The first person to see something that starts with the letter 'A' calls that item out. The next thing someone has to find is something that starts with the letter 'B.' Go through the alphabet to see if your family can find something on the road trip that starts with every letter of the alphabet - in order.

Visit Superior Kia

Road Trip Essentials

When you're packing your vehicle for a road trip, even if it's a short trip, there are some essentials that you must have done prior to the trip and some essentials that you need to bring with you. Unless you frequently service your vehicle, you won't know if it has an upcoming problem that could leave you stranded in the worst place ever. Stop by Superior Kia to have your vehicle serviced before you head out so that you'll have less of a chance of breaking down on the road. However, because there is always that chance - we are talking about a machine, after all - you should be prepared to spend at least 24 hours in your car.

Medical

Always be sure you have a good first aid kit in your vehicle, especially if you have children or an accident-prone spouse or friend. Don't rely on the smaller kits as they are limited in what medical aids they have available.

Additionally, be sure to bring at least two day's of extra medication if anyone traveling with you is taking daily medication. If someone has insulin or other medication that needs to be refrigerated, pack it in plastic baggies, then put it in an airtight plastic container and keep it in the cooler.

Survival

While most people bring snacks and drinks with them on a road trip to lessen the number of stops, be sure you have extra bottled water and extra high-energy snacks packed. If you do get stranded, you'll have something to eat and drink while you are waiting for help. Even on a warm summer night, you'll want extra blankets or jackets, too. If it rains, it will get damp and feel cool to many people.

Furthermore, you'll want an extra change of clothing. If it does rain, you'll have something dry to change into and won't have to worry about doing laundry on the trip because of the extra night you spend on the road.

Visit Superior Kia

Minimize your chances of getting stranded by having your vehicle checked before you head out on the road. Even if your Kia was serviced within the last couple of months, it's better to have our experienced technicians at Superior Kia check the brakes, hoses, belts, fluids and other pertinent systems before you head out.

Three Top Reasons To Choose Kia

When you decide to buy a new or used car, you have to decide which dealership you are going to get that vehicle from. That means you have to decide what make of vehicle you want, especially if you buy new. If you want a used Dodge, you can still choose Superior Kia since we may have a used Dodge at our used car lot. However, if you want a new car, you should consider getting a Kia at Superior Kia.

More Bang for Your Buck

Choose a Kia because you get more bang for your buck. Kia models have more features for its vehicles than most other manufacturers in the same vehicle class. For example, a mid-trim-level Kia sedan may have heated seats while other manufacturers may only offer that in their highest trim levels. Kia models are at least competitive in pricing if not less expensive than another manufacturer's vehicle in that class.

Lower Yearly Cost to Own

Many of Kia's models have a lower yearly cost to own. This means they are cheaper to insure, have better fuel economy and don't depreciate as fast. When a vehicle holds its value, you can get more for it on resale.

Excellent Customer Service

When you buy a new or used vehicle from Superior Kia, the excellent customer service doesn't stop when you drive off the lot. Whether you need service, repairs, need a part from our parts department, or have an issue with your Kia, our staff is helpful and friendly.

Whenever you need something give us a call and if you need an appointment, we'll work with you to have you come in at the most convenient time during regular hours.

Give Your Kia a Spring Cleaning

Now that it's spring, the snow should be gone for good and that means it's time to do some spring cleaning for your Kia. You should detail the interior and exterior thoroughly, including the undercarriage and the wheels. You can have your Kia thoroughly cleaned at Superior Kia or pick up any part or accessories you may need at our parts department.

Exterior Detailing

Detailing and cleaning the exterior is one of the most important things you can do to increase the longevity of your vehicle. The salt mix from the winter can really degrade the paint and if left on long enough will remove the paint.

Wash your Kia, including the undercarriage. Make sure you get any built up mud off as it probably contains salt from the roads. Once you have it completely cleaned, go over the vehicle to make sure there are no small scratches that need to be repaired. You can have our body shop repair dents and scratches. Once your Kia looks is clean, give it a good coat of wax with high-quality wax.

Interior Detailing

You may not think the winter would have much wear and tear on the interior of your vehicle, but it does. Every time you get in with water on your feet, they probably has salt and other chemicals used in clearing roads and parking lots. Wash and vacuum the floor mats, then vacuum the carpets. Shampoo all of the carpets in your Kia.

Be sure to clean and use the appropriate products on the materials inside your vehicle to restore their luster. If you have a leather interior, use a good leather cleaning product. Make sure you clean the dash and consoles. Don't forget the back seat!

Checking the Mechanics and Detailing the Engine Compartment

As part of your spring cleaning, you should have your vehicle's mechanics checked. Check the tires - and change them from winter to summer or all-season tires, check the brakes, suspension, steering, belts, hoses and fluids. Clean and detail the engine compartment. Salt water splashes up into the engine compartment. Getting that mess plus any grime in there allows you to see the engine and allows you to find leaks.

Kia Trail'ster steals the show at the Chicago Auto Show

When you visit an auto show and look at some of the concept cars, you'll get an idea of what an auto manufacturer is thinking of putting out next. Within a year or two, you'll see something based on that platform at dealerships like Superior Kia. While some vehicles never make it to dealerships, many do.

One of the concept cars at the Chicago Auto Show, the Kia Trail'Ster -- a version of the Soul, has a good shot at being seen at Kia dealerships. The Trail'Ster is a hybrid all-wheel drive model that could be seen in the near future. The concept features a retractable roof, integrated roof rack fittings, aluminum cross rails, LED lights, skid plates and fog lights. Additionally, the Trail'Ster has 2.5 inches more ground clearance than the Soul.

These bolder styling cues stole the show for Kia. That the Trail'Ster is being promoted as an off-road crossover utility vehicle also caught the attention of people. The new concept was developed at Kia's design studio in Irvine, California; and designers kept those who want to take mountain adventures and escape urban reality in mind.

The Trail'Ster - as it sits now - will feature a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine with 185 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque. The all-wheel drive system will be driven by a 35-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle. The electric motor will produce 100 pound-feet of torque and will be powered by a 1.2-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which will be located under the rear cargo floor.

This combination makes more horsepower than either of the engines in the Soul. The same engine now puts out 130 horsepower in the 2015 Soul; and the 2.0-liter that is optional in the Soul puts out 164 horsepower.

To learn more about the Kia Trail'Ster as information becomes available, keep your eye on this blog or visit our Superior Kia showroom.

2015 Soul EV

If you love the Kia Soul and want an electric vehicle, you're in luck. Kia now has a Soul EV, however, it won't be available at Superior Kia and other dealerships outside of California for some time; though hopefully it will be available some time this year. The new urban passenger vehicle or UPV is Kia's first zero-emissions vehicle.

A fully charged battery pack gets you a range of about 93 miles, so you'll probably rarely see a Soul outside of city limits. However, this EV is perfect for decreasing your cost of living by using it to commute. The Soul's range is better than most and comes in second to only the Tesla Model S. The eight-inch color display, located in the center of the dashboard, allows you to monitor the battery state and range.

The Soul EV weighs in at about 3,400 pounds - several hundred pounds more than a basic gas model. The extra weight comes from a 620-pound battery pack and five subfloor beams that are used to strengthen the unitized body. The battery pack is air-cooled and features 192 cells. The eight modules that hold the cells ride under the first and second row seats.

A single speed transmission transfers power from the synchronous AC motor that makes 210 pound-feet of torque and 109 horsepower. Since the motor makes torque and horsepower immediately, acceleration is not a problem in the Soul EV and you'll have no problem getting going from a dead stop. However, because of the weight of the Soul, getting to 60 mph might take a smidgen longer than it does in the gas model - around 10.7 seconds.

To learn more about the 2015 Kia Soul EV, including its release date at Superior Kia and other non-California dealerships, keep your eye on this space.
