2016 Kia Rio at Superior Kia

If you are in the market for a Kia Rio and have been waiting for the 2016 model year to arrive, your wait won't be that long. Within the next month or two, the Rio should be available at Superior Kia. And, this model is one that Kia refreshed for the new year.

Some of the new features include revised front and rear fascias and a new grille. The new grille now features the corporate geometric grille mesh pattern that you see on the Soul and the Optima. Along with the new grille, the headlights were moved inward - not too much - which gives the Kia Rio more of a contemporary look.

In addition to the grille and moved-in headlights, the front also features new fog light surrounds with satin bezels. The new surrounds outline projector lenses. The lower valence also received horizontal style lines to further enhance the Rio's new look.

The front of the Rio is not the only thing that Kia refreshed. The rear sports new tail lights; and the designers move those to the far corners of the vehicle. And, depending on the trim level, new horizontal lines for the lower rear, just like those in the front.

The 2016 model year also features two new colors: urban blue and digital yellow. And, some of the interior trim has been changed; plus the Rio has more high-density foam in the A and B pillars to reduce NVH levels.

The Rio didn't get an engine refresh - it is still powered by the 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. This engine makes 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque. The engine is backed by a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. However, the hatchback version no longer offers the manual transmission.

The Rio features three trim levels: the LX, the EX and the SX. The trim levels are mostly unchanged; however, the LX Power package adds power windows, power door locks, and keyless entry. And, if you opt for the automatic transmission on the LX, you'll get Bluetooth and Active Eco System.

The top trim, the SX, is sportier than the other two trim levels and includes 17-inch aluminum wheels, 11-inch front brake rotors, a sport-tuned transmission, shift paddles and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Additionally, the SX also features navigation, a backup camera, leather upholstery, push button start, a sunroof and heated front seats.

Soul EV Revealed at Chicago Auto Show

If you like the Soul, you'll love the Soul electric vehicle. The new EV model was released at the Chicago Auto Show in early 2015. The Soul EV was shown alongside the Kia Niro Concept, a hybrid urban utility vehicle (UUV) and the new 2014 Kia Optima hybrid sedan. The Kia Soul EV is not yet available at dealerships, including Superior Kia. Prices will be released closer to the Soul EV's release date.

How it Works

The EV features a 27-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack that is mounted under the Soul's floor. The cells' nickel-cobalt-manganese cathode chemistry allows the battery pack to have more energy capacity; and the graphic anode makes the battery lighter, thus reducing energy consumption.

An 81-kilowatt electric motor powers the front wheels. This liquid-cooled electric motor makes 109 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. The motor can go from 0 to 60 mph in less than 12 seconds and has a top speed of 90 mph.

To help with power requirements, the regenerative braking system recaptures about 12 percent of the vehicle's kinetic energy when you coast or apply the brakes. The consumer can choose "Brake" mode to provide more regeneration; or Drive. Both modes work with the Eco-Mode on, which also increases the regenerative effect.

Charging

The Kia Soul EV can use a Level 2 J-1772 charging port or a CHAdeMO quick-charging port. The hookup is located behind a sliding door in the Soul's nose. The onboard charger is a 3.3-kilowatt charger. A depleted pack takes about five hours using Level 2 and up to 24 hours to charge on 120-volt household current. The battery pack will charge to 80 percent in about 33 minutes when using the quick charger.

Kia Soul EV

According to Green Car Reports, the Kia should go 80 to 100 miles on a charge, but said Kia did not predict electric range or EPA energy efficiency rating. The Soul EV features a larger grille, projector beam headlights, LED lights, color accents for the front and rear fascias, and badging on the fender that says "Eco Electric." The vehicle also uses unique 16-inch alloy wheels covered with ultra-low-rolling-resistance tires.

Exterior features include turn signals integrated in heated power door mirrors, mirrors and bumpers that are the same color as the body and a chrome tailpipe finisher.

2015 Kia Cadenza Limited

All-New Features in the 2016 Kia Sorento

If you have been waiting for the 2016 model year of the Kia Sorento to come out, it's here and it's time to stop by Superior Kia to take a test drive. This year, Kia completely remodeled this crossover. This year, the Sorento grew up and is a bit larger than the previous years; and is a smaller alternative to the larger crossovers.

The new Sorento has five- and seven-passenger configurations, yet is still lower priced than other crossovers in its class, even though it has higher quality materials. Improvements include an upgraded suspension, better cabin materials, strengthened structure, better steering and a more comfortable driving experience.

Additionally, the lineup has a new engine: a turbocharged four-cylinder. The new engine has more power than the base four-cylinder engine; and it doesn't use as much fuel as the V-6 engines.

The trim levels available include the L, LX, EX, SX and SX Limited. The L trim level and any Sorento with the new turbocharged engine are five-passenger vehicles. The models that features the V-6 engine are seven-passenger vehicles. There is one exception: the four-cylinder LX model can be ordered as a five- or seven-passenger vehicle.

Features include alloy wheels, LED running lights, cruise control, three mode settings for the steering and transmission, 40/20/40 split second row seats that slide, fold and recline, a tilt and telescoping steering column, Bluetooth, satellite radio and more.

The higher trim levels add automatic headlights, roof rails, Uvo eServices, a convenience package, a rearview camera and a sound-reducing windshield. The EX model features 18-inch wheels, dual zone automatic climate control, power folding mirrors, blind spot and rear cross traffic warnings, the Convenience package and more.

When you move up to the SX, you get the Premium and Touring packages, 19-inch wheels, upgraded exterior trim, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and more. The SX Limited adds leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, heated second row outbound seats, an electronic parking brake, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and lane departure warning.

All models feature ABS brakes, front side airbags, stability control, traction control, and front and second row side curtain airbags.

The All-New Redesigned Kia Sedona

http://pictures.dealer.com/s/superiorkia/1698/e5287fe4120e57f0ea2649d434d7dd51x.jpg

If you liked the Kia Sedona before, you'll like this model year even better - and if you were on the fence about the Sedona, you'll be tipped to the "right" side of the fence with the all-new redesigned model, now available at Superior Kia. No longer a minivan, the Sedona multi-purpose vehicle, or MPV, look nothing like a minivan except for the sliding side doors.

Exterior Changes

Some of the changes on the exterior include front and rear trim that is now designed to look like skid plates, a larger nose, smaller rear quarter glass, and on some models, 19-inch aluminum wheels. And as for ground clearance? The new Sedona features 6.7 inches - and that's right up there with "real" SUV models.

However, Kia didn't make an all-wheel drive Sedona, so even though you might have the height to go off road, it's probably not advisable. However, with the right snow tires, you'll probably make it through 4 or 5 inches of snow.

Cargo and People Space

The Sedona can carry up to eight people in all three rows and still have 33.9 cubic feet of cargo space for your stuff. When you don't need that third seat for people, flip it down and you've got 78.4 cubic feet to store stuff. And five people will still fit - plenty of space for a family with three kids and everyone's beach stuff.

Certain trim levels also have the Slide-N-Stow seats in the second row. These seats collapse against the front seats and increase cargo space to 142 cubic feet. That makes converting the MPV into a utility vehicle quite easy, unlike some other brands where you have to actually remove the seats.

If you choose captains chairs for the second row in the SXL trim level, those can be moved laterally inboard for child safety. And, the seat also slides to the rear so you can have tons of legroom in the second row. The SXL model's second row also fully reclines - and has ottoman-style leg rests.

Additional Packages

If you opt for the SXL and want the technology package, that package includes forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, Xenon HID headlights and a surround-view monitoring system.

Comfort

The SXL features tons of convenience and comfort features including a wood- and leather-trimmed heated steering wheel, Premium Nappa leather seat trim, eight-way power driver's seat with four-way power lumbar, and heat and ventilation. Lower trim models have stain-resistant fabric and some even have a heated driver's seat.

How to Keep Your Kia In Tip-Top Shape In 2015

Uthor/Flickr Creative Commons

Keeping your Kia in tip-top shape means that you have a vehicle that always looks new and when it's time to trade it in, you'll get a better trade-in price for it. This means your Kia's paint looks great, the interior is spotless and the vehicle is mechanically sound. While you can do many things yourself, to keep your vehicle in the best shape, Superior Kia is here to help you.

Exterior Care

Always wash and wax your Kia, especially if you notice a lot of grime on the fenders or you parked under a tree and the birds had good aim. Acids in dirt, snow and ice buildup, bird poop and a beating from the weather all contribute to dulling the paint. The sun can cause the clear coat to lift and peel. Keeping a good coat of wax on the paint and keeping the vehicle free from acidic compounds will help lengthen the life of the paint.

Whether the wheels are chrome, alloy, aluminum or steel, they need care. Each type needs to be maintained, though some wheels such as chrome are higher maintenance in that you have to polish them more often or the chrome will start to rust off.

Interior Care

Whether the interior of your vehicle is cloth, leather or leatherette, you should clean it thoroughly every couple of months. Condition the leather seats to keep them supple. Vacuum cloth seats to keep dirt and grime from being ground into the material. Be sure to use the proper cleaners and conditioners for the dash and other materials in the interior.

Mechanical Care

Mechanical care not only ensures that your vehicle commands a higher trade-in price, it is also a safety issue. Be sure to stick to the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedules to keep your engine running for hundreds of thousands of miles. When something wears out or breaks, replace it immediately.

For example, if you hear the brakes squealing, don't wait until they grind - your repair will cost you much less. Squealing brakes mean that the metal tab on the pad is hitting the rotor. This tells you that the pads are low. If you ignore that and continue driving, eventually the pads will wear down completely and the metal backing will score the rotor. Additionally, pads that are too low could overextend the calipers - if that happens, you will have to replace the calipers.

What Will Your New Year's Resolution Be?

Derek Keats/Flickr Creative Commons

Most people make New Year's resolutions even if they think they are not going to keep them. Instead of picking something that might be difficult, pick a New Year's resolution that should be easy to keep. One great resolution is to stay updated on your Kia's service at Superior Kia. And, that's an easy one to keep, too.

Picking a New Year's Resolution

If you have a resolution to keep up with service on your vehicle, you already have a good start. To determine what else you should resolve to do, ask yourself a series of questions. The questions will help you determine which resolutions are worth making - and will help you pick things that are easier to do.

What is the Biggest Challenge for You?

A person has many ways to answer this question. Staying organized, staying healthy, procrastination, focusing on goals and other actions that can better your life come to mind. Once you pick something, it helps you to determine what your resolution should be. For example, if you think staying organized is a big challenge, your resolution might be to organize one room every month. Instead of saying you'll organize your whole house and keep it organized, which might be hard for you to do, you'll do one room. By the time you finish with all of the rooms, the first room will be ready for you to reorganize.

Describe the Past Year

Whether you had a bad year, disappointing year, happy year, a good year - it doesn't matter. Pick a word. Then determine what you can do to change it if it needs to be changed. If you had a good year or a happy year, nothing needs to be changed; however, you can always make it better if you want.

Determine What You Want to Find in the Coming Year

Whether you want love, money, success, a new job, a new house, a new car from Kia - make a resolution to save toward that project or to find love or success. It's easier to say you'll save $50 per week toward the down payment on a house or car from Superior Kia than it is to say you're going to save $5,000 in the next six months.

Take Baby Steps

If you create New Year's resolutions that are easier to achieve, you won't be as likely to give up and you'll actually be able to keep those resolutions.

Complete Your Christmas List at Superior Kia

If you have a person on your Christmas list that is just impossible to buy for and that person owns a Kia, you've got it made! Complete your Christmas list at Superior Kia with accessories for the car.

Front and Rear Splash Guards

These are perfect for the Kia owner who doesn't like getting anything on the paint job, especially salt-laden snow and ice. Since the salt destroys the paint, you have to clean it off often. These splash guards will keep a lot of the slushy mess or mud away from the paint.

Crossbars

If your friend or relative has a Kia and loves outdoor sports such as boating and fishing, the crossbars are perfect. Mount a canoe, fishing poles, or even add a cargo box on top of the vehicle. Add a ski holder or bike holder to the crossbars for the person who loves to take his or her "toys" everywhere.

All-Weather Mats

All-weather mats are the perfect gift for a Kia owner. They keep the carpet clean and, more importantly, keep the carpet from getting stained with snow, ice, mud and salt.

Cargo Accessories

Pick up a cargo net or cargo tray for the Kia owner who prefers items to stay in place during a commute or road trip. A cargo mat protects the carpet in the cargo area and is perfect for protection from groceries that might leak, such as packs of meat or ice cream in the summer.

Sport Visors

Sport visors not only look great, but they help keep the rain from dripping on you. This is great for those who must drive with the window opened a crack no matter what the weather or temperature.

Dressing up Your Kia

Hood masks, hood deflectors and chrome mirror covers change the way your Kia looks and makes it uniquely yours. If you have a friend or relative who is a Kia owner and wants his or her own special look, pick up these items or bumper covers. Bumper covers not only change the look of the Kia, but protect the bumper.

What to Expect from Kia in 2015

http://pictures.dealer.com/ddc/resize/x514/quality/72/sharpen/1/ddc/s/superiorkia/1032/6c0714c2dc8d63a7cb2158bb5d4eb91dx.jpg

If you already own a Kia, then you're probably a Kia fan and will be looking to upgrade to a new Kia in 2015. We at Superior Kia keep you apprised of new Kia models and what's new for the new model year to make your buying decision easier. Stop by Superior Kia today to see some of our 2015 models; and stop by our blog often to see what might be coming down the pike.

Kia KX3

If you were disappointed that Kia didn't show at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, hold that thought - the Korean manufacturer did appear, but at the Guangzhou, China auto show - and they had a new concept car. While the concept car won't be released in North America, it could be a "show off" vehicle for changes to the Kia Sportage that is due to be released in 2015. Since Kia hasn't mentioned much of anything about what features of the KX3 will appear on the Sportage, we'll just have to wait until the company releases information on the upcoming model year.

2016 Kia Sorento

The Sorento was first released in North America in 2002 and didn't have its first redesign until 2009, then again in 2013. Even though the 2013 model year was released as the third generation model, many consider that release a facelift rather than a new generation. The 2015 model year saw a completely revamped Sorento - so if you have an older Sorento and you want a new one, you'll notice many differences for the upcoming year's model.

And, the 2016 model, while still in camouflage, does show some of its newly redesigned body. The front and rear fascias have been redesigned and the front grille is larger. Newly redesigned headlights curve further into the fenders. The interior will be roomier due to a longer wheelbase; and the infotainment center has been upgraded. Additionally, climate controls have been redesigned to make them easier to use. Keep your eye on this space to learn more about the 2016 Sorento as it becomes available.

2015 Kia High Performance K900

A high performance K900? Really? That's just what Kia has done; and the high performance model has several things that differentiate it from the luxury sedan model. First, the body kit features aggressive-looking carbon fiber inserts. The 21-inch wheels help show that this K900 is not like its predecessor. And, the 5.0-liter V-8 under the hood and a lot more power than you would expect from a Kia.

The secret of the power is hidden in the trunk: a Garrett 2871R twin turbo that makes the 480 horses in the sedan look like child's play. The high performance Kia 5.0 makes a whopping 650 horsepower. And why is the turbo in the trunk? The placement reduces the heat build-up in the engine compartment and keeps the body in its factory configuration.

Stop by Superior Kia to test drive your next new Kia and keep an eye on this space for updates about the new Kia models that will be released in the upcoming year.

Fun Fall Treats

Flickr Creative Commons

Since it's getting cooler - actually, colder - out, you are more apt to spend time inside. Use that time to make some fun fall treats for your family - or to teach your kids how to make cookies and other treats. When you finish with your winterization service appointment at Superior Kia, head over to the grocery store to pick up the ingredients you'll need for these fall treats.

Autumn Leaves

  • Your favorite sugar cookie dough
  • Food coloring - red, green orange, yellow
  • 1 1/3 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 5 to 7 teaspoons warm water
  • 1 tablespoon meringue powder
  • ¼ teaspoon pure almond extract
  • 2 tablespoons coarse sugar

Divide the dough into four bowls. Add food coloring each of the bowls to make the colored cookie dough.

Roll the cookies out to ¼-inch thickness and cut out leaf shapes with a cookie cutter. Bake as directed for your recipe. Remove the cookies from the pans to cool on wire racks immediately.

While the cookies are cooling, combine the confectioners' sugar, water, meringue powder and the almond extract. Beat the mixture on low until it's just blended. Decorate the cookies as desired, then sprinkle them with coarse sugar. Let them stand at room temperature until they set. Store the cookies in an airtight container.

Caramel Apple Cupcakes

  • 1 package spice cake mix
  • 2 cups chopped and peeled tart apples
  • 20 caramels
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup finely chopped pecans, toasted
  • 12 popsicle sticks

Make the cake batter as directed on the box. Fold the apples into the cake batter. Line muffin pans with paper cups and fill each one ¾ full. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cupcakes comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, add the caramels and milk to a saucepan and cook over low heat until the mixture is smooth. Spread the mixture over the cupcakes, then sprinkle the tops with the pecans. Insert a popsicle stick in the middle of each cupcake.

Kick Up Your Kia!

When you want to make your Kia stand out from other's Kia models, kick it up with some Kia accessories. From lighting to roof racks, you can find many things to change the look of your Kia - and that makes it easier to find in a sea of cars at the mall! Order these and other great accessories from Superior Kia.

Sporting and Extra Cargo Space

Whether you want to haul your bike around, go skiing, head out to the river for some kayaking or just need some extra cargo space, you'll need a set of cross bars. These mount on the roof and keep anything you need to put there off the paint.

Add a heavy-duty roof cargo bin so you can have space for more people inside. The cargo bin can carry luggage or even makes a great place to "hide" purchases when you are stopping at more than one place.

If you have a kayak and are tired of borrowing someone's truck or taking your own truck every time you want to go out, add the kayak mount to the cross bars to carry your kayak in a safe and convenient manner wherever you want to go. If you have a bicycle or skis, you can also get special mounts to hold them securely.

Towing

Add a tow hitch to your Kia so you can tow your ATV to new places to explore. Or, if you want to hike and bike, add a cargo bin to the roof rails and a bike holder to the tow hitch to carry your bicycle. You'll find that there's no end to the fun you can have with your Kia when you add these accessories.

Lighting

Add puddle lights to light up the area near the doors. Not only is this great so that you can see in the dark, but it makes your Kia look even better than it already does. Kick it up a notch with an interior lighting kit that personalizes the cabin. The lighting kit is a fully integrated color system that places lights in the cup holders, foot well area and the forward tray. The lights also shine a soft white light when the doors are opened.

Thanksgiving Events in Cincinnati

While you might be too busy to think of events in the couple days before Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Day, you may want to head out on the weekend for some holiday events. The week before, be sure to stop by Superior Kia to have your vehicle checked and to have the required maintenance done, if needed.

Fountain Square

Starting at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, Fountain Square will be gearing up for Christmas. Listen to live music from Archer's Paradox and grab some of Tom+Chee's grilled cheese. The tree lighting ceremony starts at 7:00 p.m., then there's live music from the Von Trap Kids. At the end of it all, Fountain Square will have a fireworks finale.

Twelfth Night

Catch Shakespeare's Twelfth Night at the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. The play runs through December 15, so even if you feel like you can't move after Thanksgiving, you won't miss out. The play is directed by Sara Clark.

Go Skiing

What better way to get rid of the extra calories from that huge Thanksgiving dinner, but to go skiing? Perfect North Slopes will be open, including Tuff Enuff, Back Stage, Learn-to-Turn, Clyde's Superslide and Farside slopes. If skiing is not your thing, the tubing lanes will be open. The ski resort also has a gift shop and repair shop.

Get Your Grinch On at the Aronoff Center

Take the family to see this musical adaptation of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The show was a holiday hit on Broadway and is touring the United States. Thanksgiving weekend is the time when you can see this in Cincinnati - or you'll have to catch it in another city if you can't make it Thanksgiving weekend. Ticket range from $28 to $88.

Cincideutsch Christkindlmarkt

If you want something special for a Christmas gift for someone special, visit the Cincideutsch Christkindlmarkts. You'll find seasonal décor, handcrafted gifts, traditional German holiday sweets, hot-spiced Gluhwein, baked goods and more. The event will be on Fountain Square and Findlay Market, depending on how soon you go. Friday and Saturday, it is open from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., then on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Before you head out for events or shopping - and preferably before Thanksgiving week when you expect to be busy, be sure to have your vehicle checked or have maintenance completed at Superior Kia.

Yummy Fall Recipes

Jeffrey Beall/Flickr Creative Commons

Now is the time to take a road trip to the Smokey Mountains to catch fall in full color. Before you head out, though, you'll need to have your vehicle serviced at Superior Kia if you haven't done it lately. The other thing you may want to do is to prepare some great road trip food to take along with you. Instead of stopping at a restaurant, you can stop along the way for a picnic lunch and enjoy the changing colors.

Cukes and Dip

  • 4 large cucumbers
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup cream cheese
  • 1 jar of dried beef (about 4 ounces), chopped into ½-inch pieces
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Paprika

Peel the cucumbers. You can either peel them completely, peel them so you leave strips of peel on, or leave them unpeeled. Using a teaspoon, scoop the seeds out of the cukes and discard. Wash the cukes.

Mix the rest of the ingredients thoroughly. Scoop the dip into the center of the cucumbers. Cut the cukes into 2-inch to 3-inch slices. Garnish with paprika.

Since this could cause a mess, you may want to leave the cukes whole until you get to your lunch destination, then cut them. If you plan to eat them on the way, then cut them, but prop them up against each other so they don't tip.

Boondock Grinders

  • Grinder (sub) rolls
  • Mayonnaise
  • Spicy brown mustard
  • Salt and pepper
  • Pepper Jack cheese
  • Hard salami
  • Pepperoni
  • Smoked ham
  • Smoked turkey
  • Bacon, cooked
  • Your favorite sandwich toppings

Cut the grinder rolls in half, but do not slice them all the way through. Spread the mayo and mustard on both sides. Cover each side with the pepper jack cheese. If you like tomato, add thin slices on the bottom part of the grinder roll. Layer the meats over the top of the tomatoes, covering both sides of the roll.

Add lettuce, black olives, peppers, cucumbers, onions and other toppings you might like. Sprinkle it all with salt and pepper if desired (you might want to put the ham and bacon under another meat if you're going to use salt).

Enjoy. And, stop by Superior Kia on your way out of town to ensure that your vehicle is serviced for your trip.

The Perfect Road Trip Essentials

Lloyd Dewolf/Flickr Creative Commons

When you are on a road trip, it's a given that you should have a first aid kit, extra jackets and blankets, a flashlight, flares, extra food and water, and other emergency equipment. However, if you are planning a road trip, you will need items to keep the kids busy, drinks and snacks, GPS or map, and several other things to make your road trip the perfect trip no matter what might happen. Don't forget to bring your vehicle in for service at Superior Kia before you leave - make that a part of the packing list so you can't get sidetracked.

Snacks and Drinks

Pack a cooler with soda and water for everyone. Make sure you have enough for the entire day if the trip will take all day. This way, when you stop, you don't have to worry about replenishing the cooler with drinks that might be warm.

As for snacks, bring things that are easy to eat on the go. Sandwiches, cookies, chips, vegetable sticks, cubed cheese and fruit - all are great for traveling. Most of it doesn't require a cooler; however, sandwiches, fruit and veggies should be kept in a cooler if at all possible.

Things to Do

Kids are easily bored on long road trips. Be sure you have something to entertain them. Also, bring their blankets and pillows so they may nap comfortably while you are driving. You can play driving game such as Yellow Car, License Plate and other games with the kids. Tablets with favorite games tend to keep kids occupied for hours so pack those up front if your kids have them.

Good Music

If you're the type who likes to listen to the stereo when you are driving, be sure to pack your favorite CDs, especially if you are traveling through an area without many towers. You'll have music when radio stations won't come in. If you have a passenger, that person can get the CDs out for you, but if you're doing this road trip on your own, you may want to have the CDs out of the jewel case so you can easily change them without having to play with the case.

Emergency Provisions

Always check your emergency kit before you leave. You can freshen up any dried goods and water, ensure that you have extra blankets and jackets, freshen up the first aid kit if needed, and make sure you have the proper safety equipment including flares and reflective triangles.

Stop by Superior Kia today to have your vehicle checked thoroughly before you head out on a road trip.

Advanced Technology in Kia Vehicles

Kia excellent safety ratings, partially because of the advanced technology it uses in building its vehicles. Some of this technology includes advanced airbags, crumple zones and headrests, available in the models at Superior Kia. It has earned some of the top safety awards from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and other companies that study vehicle safety.

Advanced Airbags

Kia uses several airbags, including dual front airbags, side curtain airbags in the front and second rows, and front seat-mounted side airbags. The airbag system features an advanced sensor system that monitors whether you have a passenger in the front, how severe of an impact, and whether you are using your seat belts. The sensor controls airbag inflation according to these variables.

Seat Belts

All of the Kia models feature seat belt pre-tensioners to help reduce seat belt injury during a crash.

ABS Brakes

Kia's anti-lock braking system helps the driver stay in control on slippery roads. It shortens the distance it takes to brake, then takes control of the vehicle while on slippery roads. Electronic brakeforce distribution determines whether there should be more braking power to the front or rear based on the vehicle's weight changes. The traction control ensures that you have traction when you take off plus allows the vehicle to climb hills better. The brake assist system increases the power of the brakes to shorten the time it takes to stop in an emergency situation.

Passive and Active Safety Features

Passive safety features protect you and your passengers from more injury once a crash does happen. Kia uses crumple zones to distribute and absorb the force of a crash before it can affect those in the vehicle. Headrests, airbags and seatbelts are also passive safety features.

Active safety features try to prevent crashes, and if you still crash, they are in place to mitigate a crash. These types of features include blind spot detection, frontal crash mitigation, rear view camera and parking cameras/sensors.

The active safety systems do what their names suggest. If you have a Kia with blind spot detection, the system will warn you if you attempt to change lanes with someone in your blind spot. The frontal crash mitigation system will warn you if you are going to hit something, then if you don't take action, the system will apply the brakes for you.

Stop by Superior Kia today to test drive any of the models with advanced safety technology. If you are looking at a model that doesn't feature standard active safety features, ask about options or whether these come standard on a higher trim level.
