Advanced Technology in Kia Vehicles

Lou Beat/Flickr Creative Commons

Kia excellent safety ratings, partially because of the advanced technology it uses in building its vehicles. Some of this technology includes advanced airbags, crumple zones and headrests, available in the models at Superior Kia. It has earned some of the top safety awards from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and other companies that study vehicle safety.

Advanced Airbags

Kia uses several airbags, including dual front airbags, side curtain airbags in the front and second rows, and front seat-mounted side airbags. The airbag system features an advanced sensor system that monitors whether you have a passenger in the front, how severe of an impact, and whether you are using your seat belts. The sensor controls airbag inflation according to these variables.

Seat Belts

All of the Kia models feature seat belt pre-tensioners to help reduce seat belt injury during a crash.

ABS Brakes

Kia's anti-lock braking system helps the driver stay in control on slippery roads. It shortens the distance it takes to brake, then takes control of the vehicle while on slippery roads. Electronic brakeforce distribution determines whether there should be more braking power to the front or rear based on the vehicle's weight changes. The traction control ensures that you have traction when you take off plus allows the vehicle to climb hills better. The brake assist system increases the power of the brakes to shorten the time it takes to stop in an emergency situation.

Passive and Active Safety Features

Passive safety features protect you and your passengers from more injury once a crash does happen. Kia uses crumple zones to distribute and absorb the force of a crash before it can affect those in the vehicle. Headrests, airbags and seatbelts are also passive safety features.

Active safety features try to prevent crashes, and if you still crash, they are in place to mitigate a crash. These types of features include blind spot detection, frontal crash mitigation, rear view camera and parking cameras/sensors.

The active safety systems do what their names suggest. If you have a Kia with blind spot detection, the system will warn you if you attempt to change lanes with someone in your blind spot. The frontal crash mitigation system will warn you if you are going to hit something, then if you don't take action, the system will apply the brakes for you.

Stop by Superior Kia today to test drive any of the models with advanced safety technology. If you are looking at a model that doesn't feature standard active safety features, ask about options or whether these come standard on a higher trim level.

Fall Road Trip Destinations -- Top 4 Foliage Destinations

Bradley P Johnson/Flickr Creative Commons

When you hear of foliage destinations, you typically think of the northeast or the Blue Ridge Mountains. This year, take a different fall foliage road trip. A couple of these places might be out of driving reach, but you can always rent a Kia just like the Kia you just bought at Superior Kia when you get to your destination.

Colorado

Estes Park is one of the best places to view the fall foliage, as is Rocky Mountain National Park. Not only do you get to see some of the most vibrant fall color changes, but you might get lucky enough to see some of the area's wildlife, including elk. Furthermore, you'll have tons to do if you want more action than taking pictures of foliage and wildlife, including horseback riding, fishing, hiking and more.

Missouri

This is a bit closer to home for those who want to see the fall foliage but don't have the time to take a week or two off. If you stop at the Welcome Center on State Highway 248 and Highway 65, you'll find plenty of information about various tours in the area. Be sure to visit the Ozarks and Branson for some of the best leaf-peeping. Table Rock Lake, Rockaway Beach and Kimberling City are also some great places to find the best fall foliage.

Wisconsin

Make a point to drive through Door County, Wisconsin for some great pictures of the lakes with fall foliage backgrounds. Watch for roadside stands for farm fresh produce, hot apple cider and wines from the local vineyards.

Oregon

While you might have to take a plane, then rent a Kia unless you have at least a couple weeks of vacation, Oregon is worth the drive - or flight, as the case may be. Check out some of the best fall foliage around the Columbia River area and you'll get more than just colorful leaves. You'll also get some great photos of waterfalls, gorges, gardens and even wineries. Watch for cliffs as high as 900 feet to use as a backdrop for some of your foliage pictures.

Before you head out, be sure to have your vehicle serviced at Superior Kia, especially if you are taking a long drive like those mentioned here.

2016 Kia Optima

While the 2016 Kia Optima hasn't been released yet, you can expect to see it at Superior Kia sometime during 2015. Thus far, the new Optima has been seen covered with camouflage in the United States and in Europe. The sheet metal has been completely revised, as have many other components.

The Exterior

You can expect the front to take after the K9 large sedan. The side is missing the beltline, thus allowing rear passengers a better view. The door seems to be unchanged. Also seen on the test model was the chrome accent that curves up the C-pillars and over the tops of the doors. The rear looks like it might be close to the same as the current year model including the twin oval tailpipes.

The Interior

The dashboard in the 2016 Kia Optima has been completely redesigned. The infotainment center is higher, plus the center air outlets have been moved to the space between the infotainment center and the ventilation controls. The cup holders have been moved from the closable support. They now sit beside the gear shift.

Engines

Kia has not yet released information about the engines, but it is expected that the Optima will give buyers a number of choices of diesel, gas and hybrid power plants in the four-cylinder class.

Features

While convenience, entertainment, security and safety features have not been released, you can expect the regular host of features based on the various trim levels. Interior features may include heated and ventilated seats, heated power mirrors with turn signal indicators, sound systems, adaptive cruise control, a blind spot warning system, forward collision mitigation, rearview cameras, DVD players, steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls, leather seats, leather steering wheel and gear shift knob, remote keyless entry, remote keyless ignition, a security system and engine immobilizer.

Keep your eye on this space for more information about the 2016 Kia Optima as it becomes available. Alternatively, you can stop by Superior Kia for more information as it becomes available.

EV Charging Network for Kia

http://www.kia.com/us/k3/content/media/mediabin/vehicle_experience/experience//CMS/vehicles/soul-ev/2015/experience/hero_soul_ev_2015--kia-1920x.png

Kia Motors America, based in Irvine, California, plans to add 17 electric vehicle charging stations to the 198 stations it already has. The new charging stations are "fast charging" station and can bring a completely depleted battery pack to 80 percent full in about 33 minutes.

Kia Motors America partnered with Greenlots, based in San Francisco, to add the 17 new fast-charging stations. These new stations are to support the new 2015 Kia Soul EV, which goes on sale in select states this fall. The Soul EV is the first all-electric vehicle to be sold in the United States by Kia.

While Kia hasn't released prices yet, we do know that you can be eligible for a $7,500 federal incentive. The battery has a range of 80 to 100 miles before it needs to be charged again. Once other states follow suit, you'll be able to go quite far with the Soul EV. As of now, it will only be released in California, New York, Oregon, Maryland and New Jersey. This leaves out Ohio and Superior Kia - for the time being.

As of now, Oregon is part of the West Coast Electric Highway system. The three states on the east coast belong to the ZEV Action Plan, a program that encourages the electric vehicle market.

The Soul features three different ways to charge the battery. The port is located in the front of the vehicle so all you have to do is pull up to a public charging station or to your charger at the home or office and plug in.

The battery is a skinny lithium-ion polymer battery that holds 27 kWh of energy. It's located under the floor so that it doesn't take up any cabin or cargo space. Plus it gives the Soul EV a lower center of gravity, which means that it handles better.

Though states taking part in programs have the most charging stations, other states do feature public charging stations. By checking MyUVO.com, Chargepoint and Plugshare, you can find over 14,000 240-volt outlets throughout the nation. You'll also be able to find the DC Fast Charge stations.

Keep your eye on this space to learn when Kia Motors America will release the Soul EV to dealerships in other states, or stop by Superior Kia for more information.

2015 Kia Soul EV

http://www.kia.com/us/k3/content/media/mediabin/vehicle_experience/experience//CMS/vehicles/soul-ev/2015/experience/hero_soul_ev_2015--kia-1920x.png

Kia is working on a Soul electric vehicle for 2015, however, it won't be available at Superior Kia right away. It is unknown at this time when the 2015 Soul EV will be released in states other than California, New York, Oregon, Maryland and New Jersey, but it will eventually be available to all dealerships in all states.

The Soul EV made its debut at the Chicago Auto Show in early 2014, and people have been looking to get their hands on this cute crossover. The EV is expected to get a range of 80 to 100 miles with a recharging time - of a fully depleted battery - of 24 hours on a 240-volt charger. If a consumer uses a 50 kW system, the Soul could charge up to 80 percent in as little as 33 minutes.

The Soul will be fitted with three different charging ports: two of these are for AC charging and one is for CHAdMo public station charging. CHAdMo is the acronym for CHArge de Move, a system that provides 480 volts DC. This system can charge a battery in less than 30 minutes. Charging suppliers will be Bosch, AeroVironment and Leviton.

Electric vehicles partially charge their batteries with coasting and regenerative braking, and the Kia Soul EV won't be any different. However, the Soul EV will feature two presets: Eco On and Eco Off. Both will have a drive and brake mode. If the driver used the brake mode in the Eco On setting, the Soul EV can capture up to 12 percent of the vehicle's lost kinetic energy. That energy is stored in the battery pack.

Additionally, Kia will offer an app that helps you find recharging stations. Dealerships who sell the Soul EV will offer their customers free recharging.

A liquid-cooled permanent magnet electric motor will drive the Kia. This motor puts out 109 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. It sends the power to the front wheels through a one-speed constant ratio transmission.

The battery pack is a 96-cell lithium-ion polymer pack that puts out 27 kWh. The battery pack is located under the Soul's floor, so it does take a bit of rear legroom away, plus it also takes away some of the cargo space. Because of the weight of the battery pack, Kia increase the Soul's torsional rigidity. Furthermore, since the heavy battery pack is closer to the ground, the center of gravity is also lower, which is a benefit to the Soul's ride.

Keep your eye on this space or visit Superior Kia to learn when the Soul EV will be available in Cincinnati.

Updated 2015 Kia Soul

http://images.dealer.com/autodata/us/stockphoto/2015/USC50KIC101B0.jpg

Since the Kia Soul was redesigned for 2014, the auto maker only added updates for the 2015 model year, which is now available at Superior Kia. While the upgrades were minor, they were needed. Many of them are technology updates. Since Kia already boasts excellent features and interior technology, these updates just make better even better.

The 2015 Kia Soul models will feature the UVO 1 eService package, which is a free subscription telematics service. The service is available for 10 years or 100,000 miles. This package is standard on the ! model, but is optional on the base and the + models. The eService app is accessible from a smart phone. It includes speed alert, geo-fencing, driving score and curfew alert.

Geo-fencing notifies the owner of the vehicle when the Soul travels past a set geographical area. Speed alert tells the owner if someone driving the vehicle exceeds a set speed. Driving Score 2, or Trip Info, gives you monthly driving statistics including distance traveled and average speed. Of course, Curfew Alert is just that: it notifies you when your Kia doesn't return home by a certain time. All of these apps are great for teens borrowing Mommy's and Daddy's car.

Kia also has its own app store and many apps can be downloaded free from Google Play or iTunes. These apps include iHeart Radio, Pandora, Yelp and others.

Additional new features include an Umber Color Package for the ! trim level. The Umber Color Package comes with Cloud White or Fathom Blue exterior colors. The Umber Color Package also features Nappa leather door armrest accents and seats. The wheels have black inserts to set this particular package apart from the others.

The power plants for the 2015 model include the two existing GDI engines. The 1.6-liter engines are backed by a six-speed automatic or a five-speed manual transmission. The 2.0-liter version is backed only by a six-speed automatic transmission. The 1.6-liter makes 130 horsepower and 118 pound-feet of torque; and the 2.0-liter makes 164 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque.

Stop by Superior Kia today to test drive the 2015 Kia Soul and see the difference in the 2015 model year - but of course, you'll have to get inside since the difference is in the technology - of course with the exception of the Umber Color Package.

Financing Your Superior Kia

http://pictures.dealer.com/s/superiorkia/1782/dc92a71cf8a26ea7e0e425153b23a850x.jpg

When you stop by Superior Kia to buy or lease a vehicle, you'll most likely have to finance the vehicle. Whether you choose to buy or lease depends on several things, including financing. If you want to buy a vehicle but can't afford the monthly payment, you might consider leasing. Lease payments are lower and allow you to drive off in a more expensive vehicle. It is also easier to finance a lease.

Before you choose a vehicle, you should know about how much you can afford each month and what your credit score is. While credit scores can change daily, it shouldn't be that big a difference between the score we pull and the score you pull as long as you did not make any other purchases or have something derogatory show up between the time you got your score and the time we pull your score.

While your purchase isn't based solely on your credit score, it is a large part of the decision. You should also have several documents with you when you apply for credit including but not limited to your driver's license, social security number, proof of employment, bank statements and proof of residency. In some cases you may not be required to provide all of that information, but in the event the bank asks for it, it is good to have with you as it can speed up the process.

Always check our website or stop by to ask our salesperson about financing specials. We run low APR specials, have incentive programs and also do special lease financing on certain vehicles. For example, we may be running low APR programs on the Optima. As of mid-August 2014, we are offering 0 percent APR for 36, 48 or 60 months on the Optima, or 1.9 percent for 72 months. We are also offering incentives such as customer cash, owner loyalty, competitive bonus, a military program and a college grad program. Lease specials include $189 per months with $1,850 due at signing.

Stop by Superior Kia today to pick out your next new vehicle and determine whether you prefer to buy it outright or lease it. Ask your salesperson to make up a monthly cost comparison for buying and leasing the same vehicle.

Top Car Add-Ons You Can't Live Without

When you are considering a new Kia, visit Superior Kia to test drive the vehicles with the features you want. When you take a test drive, be sure to check for other features such as easy opening lift gates, entertainment systems, seating options and more.

Easy opening lift gates are a life saver when you have an armful of groceries or things for a trip. Instead of having to use muscles to open the lift gate, you can get a vehicle with a lighter lift gate or even something that automatically opens it for you.

Electronic stability control is great for those times where you lose control on an icy road. Thanks to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), electronic stability control was required on all vehicles from 2012 onward. You can rest assured that any Kia you purchase will have this feature, and it's a feature that could save your car or your life.

Entertainment systems are important if you have children. As a matter of fact, if you have two, you might want to look for a Kia with dual audio and video in the rear so the kids can't fight over what they are watching on a long trip. Be sure you choose something that features headphones or you'll go nuts listening to two different movies or music lists.

Seating options are important if you carpool or often take trips with the entire family. You want to make sure the seats are easy to move, and if you need to put them down to haul cargo instead of people, you'll want to make sure they fold all the way down to give you plenty of room. Another thing to check is the ease at which you can change seating configurations. The last thing you need is kids trying to load in while you are trying to lock the seats in place.

Lumbar seating may not seem like it's a big thing, however, if you have a long commute or often take long trips, that lumbar seat can make the trip more comfortable by supporting your back.

Other add-ons include newer technology such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and front and rear cameras and sensors to help with parking and braking on time. Stop by Superior Kia today to test drive your next new vehicle and to get a full list of standard features and additional options available for each vehicle.

Should you lease or finance your car?

http://pictures.dealer.com/s/superiorkia/1759/50b06e15a3d60b55a30bd4e3b245e526x.jpg

Determining whether you should lease or finance a vehicle could be an easy or difficult choice. If you are one of those who find it difficult to make that decision, you have several things to look at. Before you visit Superior Kia, you should be swinging toward at least one method as payments and financing are different for leasing and buying.

Financing: If you want a luxury vehicle but can't afford the payments on a purchased vehicle, you may want to consider leasing. Since you are not paying for the full retail price on the vehicle - you are only paying for the depreciation - the monthly payments are lower than if you were to purchase the same vehicle. Often, a lease is easier to finance, depending on your circumstances.

Business: If you have a business and often entertain your clients, you may want to consider leasing. You can get a luxury vehicle for less money, plus you get to trade it in every couple of years. This means that you'll always have a newer vehicle with all the current bells and whistles when you entertain business clients.

Other Advantages of Leasing: In addition to lower monthly payments, you have a lower down payment. This means that the cost of driving is lower every month. Sales tax is also lower as you pay only sales tax on the amount you finance. You also have less repair costs over the ownership of the vehicle. Since you get a new vehicle every two to three years, your vehicle is always under warranty. Furthermore, you don't have the trade in hassles when you want to get a new vehicle. You simply turn the lease in and lease a new vehicle.

Disadvantages of Leasing: Leasing sounds great, however, there are some disadvantages. You don't get to own the vehicle unless you buy it at the end of the lease. Some people like to have something to show for the money they spent. Your mileage is also limited. You get a set amount of miles per year. At the end of the lease, if you go over the mileage, you pay per mile for every mile over the total allowed miles. You also pay for wear and tear items at the end of the lease. And, if you need to terminate the lease early, depending on the dealership, it could be costly.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Buying a Vehicle: The advantages of buying include being able to change what you want on your vehicle without having the cost of changing it back to the way you got it, it's more economical to purchase a vehicle in the long run, you can sell your vehicle whenever you want, and you don't have to pay a penalty for going over the mileage limitation.

Disadvantages include making a higher down payment, having higher monthly payments, you pay for maintenance, it may be a hassle to trade it in or sell it, and you get to "eat" the depreciation.

Once you decide what you want to do, stop by Superior Kia to test drive your next vehicle. Be ready to change your mind as to leasing or purchasing - you may test drive something you really like but could only afford to lease it.

Kia is making the ever-popular Sorento even more appealing to customers. This mid-size sport utility vehicle will be more visually sophisticated for the 2016 model year. While Kia has not released any information about the interior, chassis or powertrain, it has leaked some changes to the body. The new Sorento won't be available to dealerships like Superior Kia until next year.

The versatile seven-passenger vehicle's overhauled styling got some cues from its studios in Germany, Korea and the United States. The tiger nose grille will be even bigger and will stand more upright. The windshield has also been changed, as well as the LED lights -- the tail lights are slimmer. The changes give the Kia Sorento a more aggressive styling than the 2015 model year.

The new Sorento also has a lowered roofline, a higher belt line and the rear corners are more rounded. Plus, the wheel wells are also rounded and the sides are deeply sculpted. The 2016 model year is expected to be available during the first half of 2015, however, you can see it at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2014.

Until it comes out, you can lease the current model year Sorento or another Kia on the lot - or you can buy something and trade it in next year or the year after.

The 2015 Sorento EX features a 3.3- liter V-6 engine backed by a mode select six-speed automatic transmission. The combination gets 18 mpg* in the city and 24 mpg* on the highway. It puts out 290 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 252 pound-feet of torque at 5,200 rpm.

Features include a tilt and telescopic steering wheel, illuminated entry, speed control, a power moon roof, front dual zone air conditioning, remote keyless entry, an overhead console, a navigation system, an 8-inch LCD screen, 1 gigabyte of internal memory capacity, heated front seats and turn signal indicators in the heated power door mirrors.

Additional features include anti-whiplash front head restraints, a bevy of airbags, fully automatic headlights, delay off headlights, rear parking sensors, a low tire pressure warning system, a rear window wiper and defroster, sun blinds and a blind spot sensor.

Top Road Trip Destinations Across the Country

You have the time, a brand new car from Superior Kia and you're all ready to pack up and go. You just need a destination - or do you? If you're the type that has to plan everything, choose one of these trips, then make hotel reservations along the route. Make sure you leave enough time to sight see so that you are not pressed to make it to the next stop.

If you're the spontaneous type, these trips will be perfect for you. You can make reservations the day before or even the same day. This allows you to take your time - and to even change your plans.

Going-to-the-Sun Road is in Glacier National Park, Montana. It is a 50-mile road and national historic landmark; and it cuts Glacier National Park in half. It is a two-lane roadway that runs east and west. You'll see tons of "famous" landscapes, including forest, glacial-covered mountain peaks, lakes and deep ravines. Keep the camera ready for wildlife including mountain goats and bighorn sheep.

The Blue Ridge Parkway runs through Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina. No matter what time of year you decide to take this trip, you're going to see some of the most beautiful countryside in the United States. Though if you decide to do a winter vacation, take heed - part of the Parkway is closed during the winter months. Around the end of September is the best time to take this trip if you want to see the foliage.

Be sure to stop at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. The Biltmore consists of a 250-room mansion, the Inn on Biltmore Estate and tons of gardens. Make sure your camera has plenty of battery life and if you are using a digital, make sure you have plenty of storage media as there are many overlooks with breathtaking views throughout this drive.

Visit Cape Cod, Massachusetts if you want to get some beach time in. Route 6A is a 40-mile trip that takes you through several quint villages including Dennis, Yarmouth, Sandwich, Brewster and Barnstable. Take pictures of lighthouses, enjoy time on the beach and keep your eyes open for stars - Carly Simon has a home on the Cape.

Before you leave, be sure your vehicle is in shape for a long road trip. Even if you've just had maintenance done on your Kia, bring it in to Superior Kia so we can check the fluids, brakes, steering and other safety features.

Kia Optima vs. Kia Optima SXL Turbo

http://images.dealer.com/autodata/us/stockphoto/2015/USC50KIC052E0.jpg

When you're in the market for a new vehicle, you have to choose which model you want once you choose a make. This can be daunting sometimes, unless you know what you want. Should you get the new K900 or the Optima with a turbo? Since both are sedans available at Superior Kia, you will need to compare space, financial responsibility, fuel mileage and technical aspects of the vehicle.

Price and Powerplants

The K900 is a luxury vehicle and is upwards of $58,000 while the Optima has luxury items, yet costs around $37,000. The K900's 5.0 liter engine puts out 420 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque and runs on premium unleaded fuel while the Optima's 2.0-liter intercooled turbo engine runs on regular unleaded and puts out 274 horse power and 269 pound-feet of torque. There's a big difference, so if you are a power hog, you'll definitely want to opt for the K900.

Space

The K900 front seat features 40.2 inches of headroom, 59.1 inches of shoulder room, 45.9 inches of legroom and 55.9 inches of hip room. The Optima is competitive with is space: the front features 40 inches of headroom, 57.3 inches of shoulder room, 45.5 inches of legroom and 54.7 inches of hip room. Not a ton of difference.

The rear seat, however, has more of a difference, enough so that adult passengers might notice. The rear of the K900 offers 38.2 inches of legroom, 55.7 inches of hip room, 37.6 inches of headroom and 57.2 inches of shoulder room. The Optima features 34.7 inches of legroom, 54.5 inches of hip room, 37.6 inches of headroom, and 55.7 inches of shoulder room. If space in the rear is not a deal breaker, you might want to opt for the Optima.

Security and Safety

One of the things that many people base their purchase on is security and safety features.

Both vehicles feature traction control, electronic stability control, brake assist, ABS brakes, four-wheel disc brakes, an occupant sensing airbag, perimeter/approach lights, security system, panic alarm, ignition disable, dual front side impact airbags, an overhead airbag, dual front impact airbags, and anti-whiplash head restraints. The K900 also features power adjustable head restraints and a rear side impact airbag.

If you are having difficulty making a decision between two models at Superior Kia, compare the prices and the features. Be sure to compare some of the upper trim levels on non-luxury vehicles if you are comparing a luxury model.

Tips For Buying a Kia

http://pictures.dealer.com/s/superiorkia/1249/c1ecac4946de0bfeaba73963624d4d25x.jpg

You've already done your research and have decided that buying a Kia is the way to go since the vehicles have excellent warranties and offer the most for the money. You can even go luxury for much less than the competition. Before you head out to Superior Kia, make sure your ducks are in a row and you'll have a more pleasant car-buying experience.

Determine whether you are buying new or used. This will make a difference in the way you do your research. If you are buying a new vehicle, you won't have to worry about reliability. If you are buying used, you will want to find a model that not only fits what you need, but that is reliable when it gets up there in mileage, and this applies to earlier year models from the early 2000s and older.

Determine which model fits your family. Do you need a sedan, SUV, minivan or do you want a luxury model? You also have to figure on the price of the vehicle, your income and credit will have to be qualified, including credit score and debt to income ratio.

Check the vehicle's history. This doesn't matter as much if you are buying a new Kia, since you have an excellent warranty for any of the models. However, if you are buying a used Kia, you want to ensure that the previous owner or owners kept up the maintenance and that the vehicle hasn't been in an accident where it bent the frame.

Be ready to test drive more than one model. Have two or three options when you get to the dealership. While one model may look great on paper, you might not like how it drives. Be sure you are going to be happy with the vehicle before you purchase it. Make sure your family can ride comfortably and that you like the features of the vehicle.

Buy an extended warranty. Since Kia gives you an excellent warranty when you buy a new vehicle, it is up to you if you want the extended warranty. However, if you are buying a used Kia, you may want to consider an extended warranty.

Stop by Superior Kia today with all of the information you need to make the best choice as to which model to purchase. Test drive a couple of models to see which one best fits your family.

Where to Travel This Summer in Your Kia

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/08/Nashville_skyline_2009.jpg/1024px-Nashville_skyline_2009.jpg

So you have a bunch of days off this year, enough so that you can take a pretty long road trip. If you haven't started planning yet, you just might be the type of person who likes to jump in the vehicle and see where it takes you. Before you head out, stop by Superior Kia to get your vehicle serviced, have it checked, or to even buy or lease a new vehicle if you were already in the market for an upgrade. Then, you can pack up the vehicle and see where the next turn leads you.

For starters, if you haven't been to Niagara Falls yet, that should be one of the "must see" places on your list. The view of the Class 5 rapids alone is worth the trip, however, you can take a jet boat tour, or board Maid of the Mist.

If you're up for some beach time, head to Florida. The best beaches lie on the western coast of the state, about midway down in St. Petersburg and Clearwater. However, since you're already down there, travel the additional five or six hours to reach Ernest Hemingway's favorite retreat: Key West. There's just something about saying you've been to the most southern point of the continental United States.

You should also stop in Nashville, which is a bit closer to home, if you have never been there. If you love country music and visiting historic sites, then Nashville is where you want to be. You can visit the Grand Ole Opry, the Country Music Hall of Fame, catch a concert at the Ryman Auditorium, or even check out The Carter House, Carnton Plantation and the Lotz House if you're into visiting civil war sites.

If mountains are your thing, head over to Jackson, Wyoming for some white water rafting on the Snake River or a more leisurely dinner boat trip on that same river. You'll get excellent views of the Tetons and the Gros Ventre ranges, plus you can plan a trip up into the mountains for a little more excitement. And, if you like tent camping, there are plenty of places to camp. If not, you're sure to find a hotel tucked away in one of the peaks.

The popular car that hamsters made famous is getting a work-over , or at least 5,000 units are. The spinning hamsters are being traded for batteries and an electric motor. While it is expected that only 5,000 units will be sold worldwide, Kia expects consumers in the United States to be the Soul EV's biggest buyers.

The Soul EV first went on sale in South Korea on April 14, 2014 and is expected in limited dealerships in the second half of 2014. Initially, the Soul EV will only be sold in California, New York, Oregon, Maryland and New Jersey. Those who are interested in the Soul EV should stop by Superior Kia for more information, including a possible release date for Cincinnati markets.

Kia and Hyundai are working in a "sort of" partnership to bring green technology to its consumers. While Kia is bringing the electric vehicle, Hyundai is bringing the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. According to Michael Choo, a Kia spokesperson, "The staggered approach to the technology launches allows us not to put all our eggs in one basket." He also stated that Kia takes the electric drivetrain "very serious as an engine of future growth."

The Soul EV is powered by a 27 kWh lithium ion polymer battery, which was developed at Hyundai Motor Group's center just outside of Seoul. This center works on joint technology with Kia. Many of the parts of the EV system were brought in-house by Kia, including the battery pack assembly, an 81-kW motor, cooling technology and control systems. The battery cells were developed by a third party, SK Innovation Co.

The battery makes the Soul EV 330 pounds heavier than the Soul gas vehicle, but also gives the vehicle extra range due to the increased energy density over other EV batteries on the market. To partially negate the weight, Kia developed a heating and air conditioning system that uses less energy from the battery. A heat pump uses waste heat in conjunction with a scheduled ventilation system to pre-heat or pre-cool the vehicle while it is plugged in.

The current Soul EV is expected to have a 92-mile range in the United States. It goes from 0 to 62 mph in 11.2 seconds, beating out the Nissan Leaf by .4 seconds.

For more information on the Soul EV keep your eyes on this space or stop by Superior Kia to speak with a salesperson.
