Have you been wanting to go green for a while but not quite sure where to start? We get it. The electrification of vehicles can be confusing, and choosing the right one may be a difficult task. At Superior Kia in Cincinnati, we have all the popular Kia electric vehicles available, and we're happy to walk you through the difference.

With an increase in alternative-fuel vehicles out in the market, automakers sometimes fail to explain how each powertrain works and which one is best for whom. Regardless of your preference, one thing to keep in mind is that all Kia electric vehicles are best for the environment, fuel-efficient, and help you save money.

What is the Difference in Powertrains?

The three types of alternative-fuel vehicles that exist are hybrid, PHEVs (referred to as hybrid-plug-ins), and EVs (electric vehicles). Going green with your vehicle doesn't mean you have to forget about a gas engine completely. As you will read, there are plenty of options available.

Hybrid

Hybrid vehicles are 100% gas-fueled. They run on a combustion engine, an electric motor, and a small battery simultaneously. These vehicles use regenerative energy from their brakes and gasoline engine and deliver it to the battery. This mechanism delays ignition when taking off, thus providing excellent fuel efficiency in cities like Fairfield, OH, and Batavia, OH.

Our Kia hybrid models include the Kia Niro Hybrid and the Kia Sorento Hybrid.

Hybrid Plug-Ins (PHEVs)

PHEVs work on a gasoline engine paired to an electric motor and a medium battery. These require a plug to charge, hence the name "plug-in". What's advantageous about these vehicles is that they won't tap into your gas engine until you've run out of power. So as long as you keep charging it, you won't need to refuel. The gas engine is a backup.

Electrics (EVs)

With fully electric vehicles, you can say goodbye to gasoline engines for good. They perform exclusively on an electric engine and a large battery. They provide the longest electric range and can easily be charged in an electric outlet like the one in your garage.

Our Kia Niro EV gives you up to 239 miles of range and even comes with an available UBVO link that lets you know the amount of charge in your vehicle and where to find the nearest charging station.
